Saw these in the latest specials catalogue thing they do.. Wonder if they're any use to airsoft as I dont have a clue about the radio side of things....

Tevion Terrain 650 Twin Pack €40

    Up to 8 channel combinations
    Auto channel scan function
    VOX Technology

Nothing on aldi site about em yet... reckon they're useful or a load of sh1t?

Also if they suck can anyone suggest a cheap one from say argos that'll work? Don't wanna be ordering from abroad you see...

Argos have no lower end ones worthwhile. I got a deal on some end of lines from them, but now all thats left is binatone junk, which is similar to what Lidl have done/Aldi may do, but with hiked up prices.

Only one way to see what the Aldi ones are like...

Ask Vtec, he was pimping them there a while ago.

I've got them and they are desent enough.
I could hear well and undestand what other peopl say as well as they can hear me.
I can compare them to Motorlla Talkabout. I'd say they are even a bit better as TalkAbouts do not pick up call signal every time.
Range is good for our airsoft sites, as I could get good reception signal across Fingal airsoft site. (From safe zone to new base at the end of the site.)
One problem is that PTT button on headset is small and difficult to find/press in gloves or with frozen fingers.

After playing a weekend event with a squad consisting of everyone with decent radios except one person with an aldi radio, I can safely say that you should avoid these if you're serious about being heard. They have an effective range of a few hundred yards, and after that they're so distorted and garbled as to be unusable.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, club together with a mate and get the Motorola XTR446 twin pack off pixmania.ie -- 40 quid each and you get a rock soid radio that has all the bells and whistles you need, takes talkabout headsets, runs on AAA batteries if you're stuck, and doesn't look like a toy.

I must get a proper radio.

That said, some of the cheap radios do the job, but some are just junk. HRTA is no bother for any kind of ok ones, but we had problems in GTAC because there is just so much foliage around you. Sapped all our range.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, don't bother with cheap radios, they may work ok for a bit but when you really need them they'll fail you. Save yourself money in the long run and get the xtr as dave said or keep an eye on eBay for a good xtn446 with charger.

Ditto on the XTR446's, They are pretty bulletproof, I have at least 5 sh!te radios i bought from places like aldi taking up space in my bin!!, Also if you get XTR446's, Its very easy to get deacent headsets etc, Whereas with the aldi junk you will be searching for years!, most of them have the polarity reversed on the headset connectors

i dont know what model these are but i have a pair of aldi ones that were about €40 and they are absolutely grand for what you want them for, they stated a 10k range and have their own docking station but can use AAA batteries as well, iv had no problems using them them over the full area of SEACOMs 10+ acre dense woodland site.

that said ive used iv used others from ALDI/LIDL that were about €20 and they were unusable once you got past 200 yards under the same conditions.

If you have a mate to go in on them with you then go for it, no point shelling out big money for something you might not end up using that often.
