    Hi,
I have a nintendo wii, and a vodafone portable internet connection. However, when I try to connect to the internet through the WII it says there is no connection. Is there anything in particular I should be doing?
or do i need another connection?

    Thanks:confused:

I think the Wii will only connect through an existing wireless connection, so if your only web connection is the mobile Vodafone one, then the options are limited. You could get a router that accepts a 3g card, connects to the internet then broadcasts the signal wirelessly, but it could be an expensive option, maybe between E150 to E200ish.

How do you have the connection set up?

I am not very 'technically' minded, so i went throught the connection set up on the WII, with the vodafone 3G in the USB. it didnt connect from that.
If this isnt going to work for me, is there another way? I know my contract with VF is almost up so I could go elsewhere and get wireless? can anyone reccommend what I should do? Its so annoying that I can't access the wii-net!

You need to have a wireless internet connection in your home, not something like your Vodafone dongle but a wireless router.

Vodafone/o2/3 Wireless (or Mobile) Broadband is not the same as the traditional Wireless Broadband.

Traditional wireless broadband is what you need to connect your Wii to the internet.

There probably is a type of Router that will allow you to connect your VF dongle to it and transmit it wirelessely but it is total down to your own personal circumstances i.e. do you need it whilst travelling etc and do you need to splash out to have Wireless that will work on your Wii.

Currently there is no other way of doing it as the USB port on the Wii does not support Mobile Broadband.

Another suggestion, if you can pick up a strong signal from any neighbours ask them can you pay them a few quid each month to bunk in off their signal but you would probably want to know them fairly well!!!!:)

It isn't possible to connect your Wii to the internet by plugging your Vodafone dongle into the USB Port Wii. the only simple way to connect a Wii to the internet is through a Broadband connection that comes into your house through a phoneline and has a wireless box (router) connected to it.

One of your neighbors might have an unsecured wireless network that you could log onto on the sly (technically this is stealing though). Use the connection feature in the Wii menu to search for an available network.

I think there's a way. You have to set your laptop up as an access point, and buy a "Nintendo Wi-fi USB connector". So you connect your laptop to the internet via your 3G modem, then connect from Wii to laptop (wirelessly).

    See here for information.

Don't forget to let us know how it goes if you get it working! (others will be in the same boat as you :))

It may be possible but pointless in the end. The connection isn't really fast enough. While you can plug in the USB dongle you can't install the software onto the Wii.

Save your self allot of heart ache and money and get yourself a proper broadband connection.

a lot, them dongles can be heart breaking and even when you get them working there is no VOIP, no Torrents and punitive download caps.
