hey lads, just started the 20 rep program, legs and body, in bits but im looking forward to the challenge. anyway as the title suggests im lookin for high protein foods. I curently weigh 85kg/187lbs so strictly speakin i should be getting between 187grms and 374grms of protein per day.

Right now i can make up 145grms/day with 3l milk, tin of tuna/sardines, tin beans, and 5eggs per day.

Anyone else got good, preferably cheap, ways of getting in the protein??

Chicken and maybe a shake. That's quite a lot of milk, is it skimmed?

    What height are you newby?

If you're looking to bulk whole milk is reputedly better. The fats help as well as the protein plus there are some studies showing it has a growth effect on the boy you don't get with skim milk.

I dunno the exact details though.

If you're quite low bodyfat at the mo it might be worth considering to help you adjust to the new program. Good luck with it by the way.

Almonds (or unsalted nuts in general) make a handy between meals protein & good fats snack.

Almonds are really good but kind of expensive unless someone knows a cheap source ?

Try Brazil nuts, taste awesome and have real good fat and protein values.

I picked up a 2kg bag of nuts in tescos for £2.90 ( I'm in wales ) They've got brazil nuts, peanuts, almonds and raisins. They're a good snack alright. I got some haddock today and that's full of protein , 34g per 120g portion I think. Mightn't be the cheapest but you have to eat your fish :D

these are also a very good source of energy :D handy to bring to work or something to snack on instead of fatty crisps and such. :D

Go easy on the Brazil nuts.
"People should be careful to limit themselves to no more than a few Brazil nuts per day, otherwise selenium could potentially accumulate to toxic levels in body tissues.

"Also, as the nuts can contain relatively high amounts of the elements barium and thorium, people should avoid eating too many as it is still unclear what intake of these elements might be harmful."

Hey, Brazilian Nuts. I would keep them to a min. Myself I am carb depleted and dropping water at the moment. I would suggest that you look at foods containing a source of good fats, it all really depends on what you want to do with your body. To bulk up I would suggest the old hardcore way and that is get sponsored by Burger king or pizza hut:D. Seriously tho eat. Now if you want to gain muscle while at the same time staying some what lean, I would suggest getting your protein intake up, not too high because your body will not use it and you will just pass it (down the toilet) I cant think right now buts it approx 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. I will let you do the maths :D. Keep the carbs to a min, with carbs you will retain water. If you drop your carbs down, depending how low I would up the healthy fats so that you dont lose muscle mass. Healthy fats = almonds, peanut butter, faxseed oil etc etc.

The fruit/nut mixes always come with lots of raisins... Just wondering how good/bad raisins are for you? i.e. should you try & avoid them & just eat the mixed nuts ???
