I notice this is available on vodafone UK.

Any ideas when it is available over here?

    No idea, really...
But there's been some fuss about UK retailers who get a lot of bad feedback: basically, a lot of customers say it's too similar to the n95/8 to justify the much higher price. Now vodafone Ireland are selling the n95 again at a fairly goodish price; sandisk released a 16gb micro sd...do the maths, see what the n96 adds to that? On the other hand: with the iphone going prepay for xmas, I'm sure one of the other networks will want a high-end nokia in their xmas range, and the 5800 won't be available yet. But maybe you should buy one online? There are special offers at all the regular online retailers like expansys and play.com because, again, many customers resist the combination of high price and not so huge improvements over previous n95's... Personally, if I were looking for a slider cam/media phone, I'd order a nice simfree samsung i8510 and wait for nokia 2009 N-series touchscreen device or a proper n95 update. Buying an N96 now is a bit like swapping an e61 for an e61i a couple of years ago....but at least then the cam was a proper addition, and it wasn't twice the price.

You're right as well, I really cant see the hype over this handset. Its basically a 16Gb N95. No extra features. Ok, people will say the DVBH is, but what good is a feature when you can't use it. Its like saying my phone is better because it has push to talk.

It's the camera and wifi i'm after in the sony, tbh i'm sick and tired of sending nokia for repair, none of my last few nokias have been trouble free, not to bothered about running loads of aps, If i can get sat nav and sling working i'll be happy.....

Yea I like the look of the Samsung myself, http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/7715_Samsung_INNOV8_i8510-8_megapix.php

Still going to go with the Sony it's about time I tried one out....

i see O2.ie have a "interested in N96, register your email here" link

anybody got any idea when this will be available on o2?

i'd guess before xmas if their advertising it already.

i have an upgrade that i need to use, and this may fit the bill !

(i would prefer the n85 from the sounds of things but no sign of that in ireland yet)

FWIW, it was in the o2 store in Tallaght shopping centre last week when i was there.
    Lovely looking phone.
Bloody expensive though on the o2 tarriffs.
IIRC, something like 370 on the 50 euro 18 mth tarriff.
