Dvd Burner on a macbook Pro??

Need to know this quick as a mate needs to do something, but is there a dvd burner on these?? basically does the program RipDvd just rip them to the hard drive or does it burn them, or if i just put in a blank dvd into the drive, will it just record as a normal cd-r would?? Cheers guys
