I'm in the process of putting together a two piece pub band.

What are you guys, who are in a similar band, using to play backing tracks?

That is, actual recordings, not midi files.

i was gonna go the iPod route but now have decided to use a laptop with Ableton Live loaded on it. Then i'll have a midi foot controller to trigger the backing tracks. and need a USB audio/midi interface so the laptop and foot pedal can communicate...

but overall not a whole lot dearer than a decent iPod + docking station, assuming you have the laptop already of course.
the plus with that is you can trigger the backing track to start using your foot pedal (no count ins needed. well mostly anyway... ;).//

hope that helps.. yes these are audio.. not midi backing tracks.

    Fair enough....

But they're ones I'm recording myself with Live Drums and me playing the bass ....so.

Life is simpler without a drummer and or guitar/bass player!

Fair enough, but not as much fun.

Nice setup there, will send a friend request from myspace.

    Landslide band.

    relax Emnk...

jeez. some musos get really uptight about these dont they.
yet nearly every pub gig i go to nowadays has a duo using them... pub owners just cant be bothered with 4 and 5 piece outfits n terms of cost and space to put them... so take it up with them i guess!

so if you want paid work in that kind of area you really have to at least consider it right?? as opposed to sitting at home and not working but happy in the knowledge your artistic integrity is preserved even though your cupboard is bare!!! or ..err something like that. i'd agree though. some folks out there are giving these tracks a bad bad name... there are different levels of quality out there y'know...

    @ Paul

You make them with live bass and drums yeah?
    Ive PM'ed you about something...

I suppose it is a matter of taste, but the people using crap backing tracks are misleading the audience that they are creating the overall sound. Most people are ignorant of the technology used. Personally I wouldn't stay to listen to someone using backing tracks. Yea I would prefer to be at home bare cupboard and all playing my own music. It's real.

    I'm chilled.

First of all, sorry for hi-jacking your thread Paul...!

I was thinking of doing much the same as Paul has stated in the OP.

A two piece with Rhythm and Lead guitar.
I would be making all the backing tracks with LP 8.
Just wondering what you think about this set up.

    Macbook Pro.
    Audio/MIDI interface.
    Behringer FCB1010.

Now,one of my main questions is:
Should the FCB be adequate for selecting tracks, transport control etc in lets say itunes or Qlab etc...

    All help greatly appreciated.

Please note, for all the purists out there,I would gladly give up on this idea if you'd agree to pay my Mortgage for me!

    Besta luck :)

Backing tracks are a great help..
Seen a guy doing that in De Bruns last week (not that i frequent there, was brought...)

Had himself singing, another guy playing a guitar and had premade Guitar-less backing track (purchased not self - made). Sounded well,
