Hi all.. first time poster in Fitness (i think)

I used to do a lot of training years ago and was also taking creatine and Protein supplements.. anyway after a long battle with a wrongly prescribed dose of penicillin that put me in bed for 3 weeks on liquid meals, i lost a lot of weight and also could not lift any of the weights on my program when i made it back to my feet.. so i kinda put training on the back burner.. anyway i have a full tub 5lb of whey and a 1000g tub of creatine left over and want to get back into training, however they are both 1 year passed their expiry date.. they both look fine.. still perfect powder no moisture or funky smells and have been stored in a cool dry dark place since bought...

so what im asking is.. can i save myself a small fortune in these dark recession days by using the stuff i have?

    Thanks

You say expiry date, but generally there are 2 types of date, "best before", and "use by", and them mean exactly what they say.

e.g. meat will have a use by date, it will be toxic after that. Tinned food has a best before, tinned food is sterile so it just not at its very best after such a date.

Also when calculating what date to put on something they use worse case scenarios, people storing in direct sunlight in humid environments.

If they smell & look fine I personally would have no problem using them.

I agree and I have done it a couple of times and to be honest after todays budget I might see myself doing it again :D As long as they were sealed and stored as you say they should be fine. But before taking them I would check out the best before and use by dates on the containers. If it tastes anyway strange stick it in the bin. Best to be safe than sorry.
