    CITYFEST as part DEAF 2008

Every Bank Holiday at McGruders, Cityfest endeavours to bring you the best in electronic and live performances through the collaboration of some of Dublins most respected promoters. This October weekend, 25th and 26th, is no different with perhaps the best line up yet as an acknowledgement of DEAF 2008.

Saturday night sees Ralph Lawson of 2020 vision take the main stage under the banner of the increasingly popular JackIt nights of Giles K and Conky. Ralph is a living legend having held the first residency of Leeds famous Back to Basics nightclub where he has been for nearly 16 years now. A regular guest at Fabric, Bugged Out and Home his lighter tech house leanings have assured his title as something of a UK institution. He will be supported by a very different sound in the guise of Electric City’s Giles Armstrong.

Also appearing on Saturday is the beatboxing bedlam of the Breakdown Crew. Pushing their flute, sax, dj and live percussion sounds in a mish mash hosted by MC Kwasi of Manchester, this is a show not to be missed. Alongside these are the DeadBeat gang headed by Don Rosco, T-Woc, 16 Hz and Johnny Oakley who will provide some flavoursome dubstep beats.

Of course, so as to cater for all cross sections, Human Music will be ensuring that those of such a persuasion can rock out in the bar all weekend with some of the best local talent on offer.

Sunday is a somewhat different affair with the sounds just that little bit harder. Renowned techno producer Thomas P. Heckman from Maine Germany will be giving a lesson in traditional techno methods and melodys. He has worked under as many pseudonyms as he has labels, and it is under the names Drax and Age that he is most remembered with the way back release Trope considered a staple of many a techno fans diet. His later, much applauded release Amphetamine ensured his renown and we can expect some dark, obscure offerings from this techno master.

In the Junction arena, we have two resident DJs of one of Central Europe’s most famous techno clubs, ‘U.Club’. Loktibrada and Rumenige are regarded as the ‘fathers of Slovak techno’ and have release over 30 records worldwide for labels which include Antidandruff, Olga+Jozef, Numb, Palicavonzvreca and Tresor. Having emerged from their home country to play all across Europe, they will now grace the Dublin stage and will be most aptly supported by Junctions John Hussey and Andy Noonan.

To tie these two together we have the reggae and dance hall styles of Worries Outernational and the bluegrass musings of Sons of Gingerbread on the Human Music stage. As it is Halloween, fancy dress is mostly definitely encouraged with prizes for best dressed as well as a bar games, and burlesque, fire dancing and comic performances on the outdoor stage. Doors are at 8 o’clock so get down early to fit it all in!
