Sounds about right - it gets serviced once per annum or 20,000kms. At 40kms This is normally Oil, filters (pollen & co), sparks and in your case brake pads.

The brother's 2.4 Auto was done at 36k miles two months ago and he needed the same as you (incl rear pads) and it was about €500 as well. The bill breakdown looked fine.

also be aware that the valve clearance checks , just found about it now need to be done at 40k km.. its part of the main service.. i read on here earlier that irish dealers dont do it..... ??:confused::confused:

With respect not all main dealers are rip-off. The very existence of a business is to generate profit and that's what dealers do. Why do you think €510 for what the OP got was rip-off? Yes the OP could possibly have done it himself, but for the €510 the car was:

    1. Serviced or overseen by a qualified Honda mechanic
    2. Used OEM Honda parts
    3. Compliant with the waranty requirments of the car.

To me, €510 seems fair. €200 would be cheap and €2000 would be a rip-off.

yes except in the manual, honda say the car needs a valve clearance check done at 40k km, just reading the manual now.. also someone else posted bout it here recently. im pretty sure that it wasnt done on my car.

so: the main dealer, didnt actually carry out the service as recommended in the service schedule!

also how qualified are the mechanics in honda dealers??

Do you know this or are you just guessing this? If you didn't trust the main dealer why get it serviced by them?

I am not trying to defend rip-off merchants and I've no connection with the Motor trade, but I have always used Main Honda dealers to service the Honda's we've had. The prices seem fair to me and all invoices breakdown the actual work done. Our normal cost of service on the Civic / CRV / Stream was always around the €200 mark (€300 if sparks and brakes are in the mix).

In comparison for the BMW in the family, I've used an Indy as Main Dealers were just costing too much for comfort. The Indy still charges €400 for a Inspect I. This the cost of doing motoring. Main dealer prices are set by the Manufacturer. Take your €510:

    VAT @ 13.5% = €60
    Leaving €450

    Labour say 3 hours @ €65 / hour = €195

Parts - which will include the following:

    1. Oil
    2. Oil Filter
    3. Pollen Filter
    4. Sparks
    5. Possible Valve Clearance Checks
    6. Rear brake pads
    7. Misc items
    8. Environment disposal

    Total = €250.

    Where is this rip-off?

If you want cheap servicing do it yourself. If you want cheaper servicing get an Indy.

    From your edit:

The are qualified to different levels depending on the requirements of the car.

For example a level 1 can change, say the oil and sparks. Level 2 can change the CV joints or similar. Level 3 can change the gearbox, steering rack, etc.

It's not necessary to employ Level 3+ engineers just to change the oil.

Then these are main dealer prices and if you work through it you will see that they are fair and IMO €510 is a fair price for the work you got done.

    ??????????????????????????:P
As Joyok rightly points out, the price you were charged seems about right but you seem uneasy about it?
If you used your noodle you would have gotten a quote or ask for a call to be put to you before fitting the pads or whatever that incurred the extra charging + labour/parts/vat etc.

    Next time, use your loaf.:D
Nevermind coming on here smarting after you got a bill after going to a main dealers where you get the full blast retail treatment.

Joyok seems to think that that is a fair price... i asked for opinions.
i paid main dealer price, as i wanted car serviced properly, with correct equipment, and information. i didnt think that it was that expensive. was just asking what other peoples opinions were.

btw i was called, and advised that new pads were needed which i gave the ok for!

Just curious, are you posting under multiple names as you are the second poster to mention valve clearance checks on a 2007 Honda Accord Auto with 40,000km today?

saw that post earlier, then fetched my manual for closer inspection. indeed it is mentioned in it. and it appears to be a time consuming job too.

Still sounds like a rip off to me..... apart from the valve clearance which I know nothing about, the rest of it would take an hour for a competent mechanic and use 100 quid of materials.
just my opinion for what its worth;)

I'm just back from my local VW main dealer. My Passat was in for its first service(30,000km).

I nearly passed away with delight as I came away with money in my wallet. €230 for a full service. Not to shabby methinks!

First service is usually nothing more than an oil and filter change. €230 is still a rip off.

Some people are cribbing about the prices of main dealers, don't go then..... Have an indy service your car instead of a Honda specialist!
Breaking down the bill it doesn't seem bad and plus a manufacture service history is better than 'micks garage' stamped on your service book.

Any indy mechanics here? I bet there is and there telling everyone to avoid the 'rip off main dealers' and go indy, but I bet if you had the chance to change job to a main dealer ye'd be gone like a flash of lightning!

Sorry there Plug, while I agree with you in the fact that people are cribbing about going to main dealers and paying the associated prices,9then don't go) I completely and utterly have to disagree with your last point.
I would honestly have less faith in a main dealer that my mechanic (he IS very good though). The main dealer will fix all warranty related issues and also any on board computer issues. For these reasons, and these reaons alone i would use a main dealer. Otherwise, I personally, just would not pay for the main dealers overheads.
i (just for the record) do not think that all main dealers are a rip off. I think EUR 510 for an accord main service and rear pads is about right, for a main dealer.
My man could have done it for half the price, but that's not the point here.
Anyway, main service, what is the big deal, if you know cars you should know what bulbs are gone, what tyres are bald, what rattles are there (or shouldn't be there) and you should be able to check your fluids.
if you are not confident in these areas, by all means use a main dealer, but an Indy will do the same job. Unless, of course, on board cpu or warranty issues need to be sorted.
