Good electric guitar for playing slide

    Guys,
Can you recommend an electric guitar for slide playing?

Alternatively, can you suggest how I raise the action on either a Fender Strat or an Epiphone Sheraton in order to play slide on them?

The action is way too low on either guitar for slide playing, even with thicker strings.

    Thanks in advance....

Jimmy Page used a cheap ass Danelectro and he seemed to do ok, careerwise. Maybe a good guitar is not the answer ;)

I dont think it really matters... I've seen a lot of junkers being used. You just need high action. :)

I have a cheap Behringer Strat copy set up with high action for slide. I don't use it much these days. But I can recommend them for playing slide. I've been thinking of selling mine for a while since I don't play it often enough to warrant keeping it but everytime I go to put it on adverts something always holds me back

I bought one of these, works quite well.
They have them for various style necks.

You can raise the action on the Epi using the bridge. Loosen the strings and then turn the silver wheel thingies that the bridge sits on clockwise. This will raise the action. On the Strat you need the tiny allan key to individually raise each bridge saddle, I think.

    Mhmm sounds like a plan!

You really need something to raise the height at the nut as well though or else you can't play anything down where the money is.

Believe me, I tried it on my Sheraton and it's just crap unless you've a good high nut.

You can get add-ons for the nut to raise the action. They fit over the existing nut and just remove when you want to.

Musician Inc were selling some cheap (but awesome) actual slide guitars for like 150 quid or something some months back....give X-Music a bell!

Exactamundo - higher up the strings is fine but near the nut is a disaster zone...

Do those nut increaser yokeys damage the fret board in anyway?
