UPC STB and G-Link

Is it possible to control the new UPC STB (Pace DC621KU) with G-Link? Does it use IR or IRda?

I have a Philips 7300H DVR that worked fine with the old STB, but I'm having problems controlling the new one. Where is the IR sensor located?

    Any help appreciated.

    Bump...

Does anyone have any GuidePlus type equipment working with the UPC (non-DVR) box?

I just got UPC digital and am having trouble connecting it to my Pioneer dvr with g-link - perhaps it's the same reason as yourself?

Then again, perhaps I've got the more basic setup wrong, as I can't see any of the digital channels on the dvr, even when the stb is switched on and a channel selected. I do have the full epg though, although only have the analogue channels.

p15574, it's not provisioned properly. Get on to UPC about it.

I have GuidePlus (Pioneer DVDR) working with Sagem set top box (kinda like the one below). Works very well.

I got a message back from UPC customer support to the effect that it will not work with G-Link:

"I can confirm that this is not compatible with your equipment. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Looks like I'll have to use auto-reminders to tune the STB, which feels like going backwards... oh well.

Great, kind of eliminates the benefit of being able to record tv if you have to be there in person to change the channel. Nice one, UPC.

Why would they support this when they have their own DVR which will work better than several separate units? Their focus is making money and they have a DVR, there is no benefit for them to support third party products.

    Why would they support this...

Why would they not support equipment from the world's top manufacturers by using the standard IR format for remote control. I have their PVR in another room, I also have an expensive and excellent DVR that I want to continue using with their TV service. They pipe TV into houses, it's just a shame that they use feeble equipment for the tap at the end of the pipe.

Again, they have their own solutions which they make money off. Why would they support others?

The new UPC boxes use standard IR, that includes the DVR which I use with a video sender. The remote codes get sent etc.

They did support others, I have been a customer for years and the old STB worked fine. They changed the STB, my equipment stopped working, I am legitimately annoyed at that change. I have a technical problem to try and get it working again in spite of the fact that even they say it won't work. Either you can help me solve my technical problem or not.

They would support other peoples' equipment because that's the way retail home electronics usually works, i.e. a Sony TV will work with a Panasonic DVD player. Maybe major manufacturer's should all use proprietary equipment that is tied only to their own technologies, I think not, YMMV.

I have a Thomson DVR and the UPC DVR. Is there a way I can use the Thomson to control the UPC one? What are "STB Control" or G-Link? I am not familiar with how this system works at all. I checked the spec for my Thomson and it has a feature called "IR Blaster Link for Sat Box" but I never got it to work (user error :-/)

Yes, I have. I have the UPC Mediabox type of STB (DC621KU). Instead of selecting the obvious Pace as your STB, try Motorola.

Searched everywhere as I too got the new Pace set top box from UPC, but G-link did not work.

Selecting Motorola worked first time. Thanks !

I was about to give up on it but as a last resort I did a systematic check of every make of STB thinking there was little chance of success, but luckily I found one which worked. I don't think the download of the EPG will still work for me after the plug is pulled on analog TV in a couple of years, as my recorder has no digital tuner. Glad you got it to work, though. Did you find the trick of adding ten minutes to the recording to make sure you don't miss the end of late-running programs?
