Not a good day for practicle solutions bud!!!:D:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

What am I supposed to do upon arriving on campus seeing that only one door in the place is open!!!

Pluck a fabulous Thermos from my arse, fill it with the finest coffee (won't say where that came from) and drink away to my hearts content!!

Unfortunately this wasn't possible.... anyway.. its a bit stupid that the stables didn't open today... they would have made a fortune from lunch and dinner!!!..... even if they did pay double time!!:mad::mad::mad:
Stables was open 11-5 today I thought??

What is the deal with leaving just one door open in the main building....... I mean to get in I have to walk all the way around to the front... walk around to the post grad room and all the way back again when I leave.

I know securities tight but come on lads!!! Ever hear of patrolling!!

Also the fact that no where is open on campus is really pissing me off!! All i wanted was a nice cup of coffee!!

AFAIK the back door was open as well. Well in the evening time anyway.

Im going on a rant so I apologise in advance....

Last night at 11pm I was driving through college on my way home, Some drunk idiot just walked out in front of my car in college. (He may have been so drunk that he fell off the footpath, or else he's just totally blind) He actually jumped up on the bonnet and I had to slam on the breaks... Luckily I was going slow enough that I was able to stop. (he has however, left serious scratches all over my car) I got an awful fright so I had to pull in, Sevda (my housemate) opened up the window and asked him what the hell he was at and he spat at her in the window (classy guy) I'm so glad that we have such people charming people around UL... This happed just before the bend at the arena coming from the stables direction. He's lucky I didnt get out of the car and clatter him around the head, but to be honest I was too shook to do anything.

    *Bump*

Having to walk around in the rain with groups of first years, who had as little interest in walking around as I did.

Also, not getting paired with the BBS class really annoyed me. I had to show Energy students around, with no knowledge on their course.

To boot, I'm now sick :(

On the plus side, my Masters doesnt begin until next Wednesday :)

Last year the person showing us around was a Aero student I believe and she spent the whole time sayign we were going to turn into the laziest students on campus as all business students do...

    Turned out she was right.

    Today's bitch!

Lecturers who promise a break in a 2 hour lecture and then dont give it, instead preferring to ramble on for 1hr 55 mins :(

The cables for connecting your laptop in the library, loads of them are missing the little lever on the top of it so it gets stuck in your laptop. Had to yank it out of the laptop today. Grrr. I shall be bringing my own cable in future:mad::mad::mad:

On a plus note, it's a bitching campus when the sun is shining!

    Bloody timetable changes midweek.

The security in the library is ridiculous

Why is it that they are all over you if you are on your laptop in the "quiet area" on the second floor (), but if there is a massive crowd of people shouting and roaring on the ground floor, loud enough for everyone on the first floor to hear...they are no-where to be found?

What's the story with taking books from the library, how long can you keep them for and when you bring them back do you have to put them back where you got them?

You pick them up and bring them to the checkout desk or else use the self service checkout machine. When you bring them back you just return them to the desk.

As for how long you're allowed to keep them this depends some books are on short loan so that means you can keep it for 3 days I think. Someone else will probably be able to give you more details on this but you should be able to find out easily enough.

Ah, how things change in the time since you left.

These days they much prefer you to take them out using the self-issue machine in the main lobby on the ground floor (the thing that looks like some mutant virtual world creation). You also return them using this machine. When returning them the machine will tell you to drop them on the little trolley next to the machine. Most books will have a two-week loan period, some will have a three day period. You'll get a receipt from the machine to tell you how long. It's quite important that you keep your receipt when returning books on the off-chance that you didn't return them properly. In limited cases where the books have an older barcode that won't work, you need to take them to the issue desk.

For short loan books (typically three hours, sometimes a day, sometimes an hour), the self-issue machine is a far more normal-looking beast, located in the short loan collection on the ground floor (on the back right as you enter the building.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 234 ✭✭Blondiegirl2009

Sorry, I came home today:) People generally come home to family/ friends/ part time jobs. And the fact that most other people go home too making the area quiet.

Depending on whether you joined any clubs or socs there's generally something going on every weekend. OPC have something on most weekends and the Kaakers have something on a good few weekends during the year. DebU will have IVs and stuff as will others.

Tbh the times I've stayed down for weekends the place is dead. UL seems to be a huge commuter University - by that I mean I'd hazard a guess that some 90% of the students go home at weekends.

when your a little first year and your lecturer gives u stuff to download off sulis and then sulis doesnt work for u!!!:mad::mad::mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 234 ✭✭Blondiegirl2009

Yeah, agree, don't like the way my lectures are seriously internet related.:( I'd like the good old fashioned way of taking down notes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭ninty9er

Taking down notes just doesn't work unless you have the preprinted ones. Lecturers do not have the time to be calling something out 6 or 7 times the way we were spoonfed in school. If it's important they may say it twice or 3 times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭pervertedcoffee

I think I'd have a panic attack if I had to rely on just taking the notes down manually!! I'm one of those people who keep freaking out about missing something important - usually interesting little details, etc. With the slides being published on SULIS I can concentrate on those little details that can really funk up an essay!

But dudes what is up with the timetable arrangements for BA joint honours??? The TUTs are all over the place and even some lectures too! Why don't they get us to pre-register when we accept and have a big chunk sorted beforehand? I actually don't know when my Wednesday Jap History lecture is on... :( and I like Japanese history.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 695 ✭✭✭TheSpecialOne

your arts too!!have u even got a timetable?! or even time's for tutorials?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,698 ✭✭✭Risteard

Being told that your French tutorial is on Monday and arriving there after hanging around after your only lecture of the day only to be asked to go to the one on Wednesday which involves waiting around for 3 or 4 hours and finishing at five.
