Which Laptop?

My laptop died last night after two & a half years of service & I've had enough of it!

I've got €900 to spend on a new one but am somewhat thorn between two or three that I looked at today. These included a Sony, Phillips & Samsung. Given that my current laptop, with which I've had my fair share of problems, is a Phillips i am not too keen to purchase what is essentially the new version of the same laptop but it is the best spec'd of the bunch with a Dual Core Intel processor, 3MB Cache, 4000MB RAM @ €850. The Sony is €100 more expensive and also has a Dual Core Intel processor, 3MB Cache but 3000MB RAM.

Any advice would be much appreciated, especially brand quality when it comes to laptops!

read this and post back with more info
And we need to know more about those laptops, like what processor rather than how much Cache each has, and hd, graphics etc etc.

Brand doesn't mean much. If you're going to go mainly by brand - then go for the Sony because there are plenty of others who go by brand too and, for that reason, it'll retain more of its retail value.
Otherwise, if you want to make and get a more informed choice: post models / full spec & more details of what you use it for, etc.

    BUDGET: €950 Max

INTENDED USE: College Work, Internet, Multimedia applications

MOBILITY: Not a big issue, 15 to 17" screen is my desired size

Warranty: To be honest at the moment i dont have to money to shell out for an extended warranty.

Hope this has been of some help & as for the laptops i dont have any concrete spec's as i only glanced at them today but they were very similar in spec from what i can recall.

I think this may have been the SONY
