I know very little about all this stuff but it would seem a good idea to buy some bank shares at the moment. Is it a good idea and how do I go about it?
    Any advise on this appreciated!

Buying any bank share at the moment has huge risked attached to it.
This is unlike any other time in recent history and this is reflected in the extremely low share price.
It depends on your attitude to risk really whether you should invest.
If you are prepared to risk it the reward could be 2-3x your money in 1-2 years.
However the bank could also be nationalised or part nationalised and you could lose part or
    all of your money.
You could come back to this forum in a year with a lot of money or none, thats the chance you take.

Just be very careful, especially since you've said that you know very little about it. I'v heard people say that bank shares have been looking cheap for about 6 months now, and each time they keep falling and falling, way past where most people have said ' sure they can't go any lower'!! You could be right, they may have bottomed, they may not, but I'd like to see a sustained period of growth before touching them.

There are about twelve hundred threads on this at the moment on this forum. Lots of good opinion on them.
