Ethernet Wont Work For Internet?

    The ethernet cable does not work with my PC, So i have to use the USB for internet use, So I'm only getting 6MB of speed when i should be getting 10MB with the ethernet cable.

    Its not the cable, Because it works with everything else, Can someone please help me...:confused:

    Looks like you're missing the LAN driver. Do you have a chipset driver disk for your mainboard?

    If you could give some more details that would be helpful. You need drivers for the computer to recognise the various components. Many of these come with the operating system. What machine have you got? Was the hard drive formatted and the OS reinstalled?

    Stuff like that....

    check to make sure the lan card is not disabled.

    check that the ip address is not fixed on the lan card. Get it to pick up an address automatically. (in the properties of the lan card - ip settings)

    There are usually lights where the cable plugs into the card - are they on?
    If not then you have a physical problem.

    If all of the above are ok then download and run a utility called WinsockxpFix.exe

    I have a dell, Yes i had to reformat the whole system with a load of discs sent out by dell, And re install the whole operating system, The Ethernet actually worked before the wiping...I'll look into drivers, Cheers!

    Is it a Dell laptop? If so, is it plugged into mains power? (i.e. not on battery only). Dell have some Eco mode thing switched on by default on their laptops. If you're on battery the LAN port is deactivated. You can change this in the control panel with a Dell utility (not sure of the name but I think it has NIC in its description).
