Hit the NY Full moon party, you'll have the best new years ever, if your lookin 4 a more relaxed quiet romantic one Ko phi phi is a safe bet.. Beautiful island but music stops at 2 which is quite painful, Id defo go for the full moon.. Avoid Bangkok, noisy, polluted dirty...

Haha funny how peoples opinions differ. I'd say stay well clear of Ko Phangnan, where they hold the Full Moon party is a dump, it's filthy and it stinks. Other parts of the island are lovely, but not that full moon beach. YUK.

Bangkok is one of my favourite cities, there is so much going on there, it's fantastic!

I'd second Phi Phi though :P

I'd take Bangkok over Phangnan anyday too.

However, the full moon party would be the obvious thing to recommend for someone heading over. I guess it has to be experienced once anyway.

Any of the other islands would do the job if you're looking for something a little quiter.

If it was me, I'd probably head to Ko Samed but phi phi is probably a better suggestion.

you could go to Koh Tao either, its a really nice place. Very chilled out too.

Phangan will be crazy but theres plenty of places on the island other than Haad Rin where the party is held. it will be packed in Haad Rin on new years, its a small town that for a night gets the population of a small city, very messy.

I take it you mean the official new year, because the Thai new year (Songkran) is fantastic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_New_Year

I had the pleasure of spending it in a friends village near Sa Kaeo, two hours east of Bangkok. It was a truly brilliant experience, especially driving around for the best part of two days in the back of a pick up truck, throwing water at people:D

I'll be over there for New Years this year as well.... can't wait.

The NY party on Koh phangan is a must to be honest. The beauty of it is you stay on one of the quieter beaches up the other side of the island... then just get boat / taxi to the party and back... no probs.

Did this for a full moon party a few years back... worked out great.
