    Hi there

I have a weird problem that I thought you guys could help with. When I move my dish to 1west I can see the Canal Digital package and but for some reason I can not get the HD channels. I have had a look at the C+ Sport1 channel and it is on Thor5 and the HD Sport Channel is on Thor2, if I can get Thor5 surely I can get Thor2. I have an 88cm dish and a DM800 and am in Kildare.

    Thanks
    TCP/IP

    Footprint for Thor5 T1
    http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/thor5_t1.html

There seems to be two C+ Sport HD channels, on two frequencies - one on T1 beam, other on T2 beam, but both are classed as being Thor5 also.

Maybe the tp's are just a bit weaker, and your 88cm dish isn't big enough?

Get a bigger dish only solution I am afraid.

Thanks for the replies i will get a bigger dish if that is the problem but looking at those maps an 88cm should be fine?

I have a similar problm on an 90 cm dish, cannot get anything from the hd channels. It should be possible but I think they must be lower power. I will check on my 1m dish tomorrow as a matter of interest.

Thanks Ronan that would be super let me know how it goes and if it works I will upgrade the dish

If they are wider transponders, higher bit rate or lower FEC then the "footprint" understates dish size. 110cm or better 1.2m dish for reliable Thor.

Getting some signal from the tp's but not enough for the dreambox to get a lock, I will try again tonight using my Technomate 5000 which unlike the dreambox has a proper tuner and see will it drag them in.

    TCP/IP

No problem getting these in Dundalk with 1.1m dish. 12.188 is 86% on my TM 6900 HD which is the strongest I can get on any sat.

Dont know anything about the DM800 but on the Technomate Modulation is DVB-S2 8PSK, Code Rate is 3/4 and Pilot is OFF. If Pilot is ON I get nothing. Of course I cant see any of the channels because they are encrytped.

BTW can you get any signal on 12.718, 12.723 or 12.735 on the Spot 3 Beam on Intelsat 10 02 at 1 W ? I get a good signal on the other transponders on that Beam but nothing on those three for some reason.

Nothing at all on the tm, it detects a signal but not enough to get over the threshold.

I am a lot more west than you and the signal does fall off a lot after the east coast.

There seems to be 2 transponders on which Canal+ Sport HD is transmitted, 11421, H and 11938, H. On a 1.2M, 11421 comes in at approx 66% while 11938 is at 88%. At that level, I'd expect 11938 to be fine on your 88cm.

Getting in those channels fine here in Dublin with a 1M dish. Using a DM800hd also.

im in mayo and the HD channels on both frequecies boom in. 11.938 is a very strong signal on my TM6900. Infact its one of the strongest signals i can get apart from 28east. Try deleting your channels from 1 west and re scanning. Also try turning pilot on/off.

What size dish are you using mate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

1.1m with .2lnb. I can also get decent signal on a 80 cm dish with same lnb. 11.938 is very very strong. much stronger than the other transponder carrying the same channels.

In reality there is little difference between 0.7dB and 0.2dB LNBs (or receivers). Signal varies over 2dB with weather. Few if any 0.2dB NF LNBs are truly 0.2. Dish size is the really only important thing, also two different models of 1.2m dish can vary by over 3dB in performance. Wrong feed horn (F/D) makes an even bigger difference. More an issue on 1m and larger dishes, especially professional centre axis, cassegrain and others with secondary reflectors.

No mate hopefully nre dish will go in next week

dont think its a dish size issue. i have a fixed 75cm dish which i use for 28east and that will bring in the transponder 11.938 as i tried last night. Doesnt bring in much else on 1west like my 1.1m but 11.938 comes in as strong as astra2d beam.

    Hi All

Just a quick question, has anyone there managed to pick up the C band service of DSTV on Intelsat 10 in the east coast region? Sounds a bit whack I know but would be interested to know if it is possible with a dish smaller than 2M.

Right guys this gets stranger and stranger. I am having problems with my DM800 moving my dish last week, when I did get it lined up and swung the dish to 1west I could get the HD chanells that I have been missing. I am now thinking that my dish is not aligned corectly. I have a 1.1metre dish been installed on Sat but I am thinking that the problem is alignment not dish size.

Will keep you all uptodate on my progress.

Cheaper larger petal Mesh is OK for C-Band, not Ku. You'd want 3.7m for C band.
