Looking to start off and I know of someone selling said camera for €200. The guy has reciepts so all's legit. Just wondering is the camera a good piece of starter kit at that price. I'm looking to just shoot some sports and scenic photography.

    Thanks in advance

There was no need to copy/paste all that. Most folks here know what a D70s is.

The D70 replaced the D50 and was superseded by the D40/D80 bodies, the D40 being cheaper and more basic and the D80 being fancier. Its about equivalent to the Canon 350D and is a pretty good abet oldish camera. A little noisy by todays standards (but hey thats Nikon ;))

the s version was the upgraded version. Its a fine starter camera, just be wary of the number of actuations on the shutter. It may be near the end of its life.

Also you'll need lenses for it!

^^ only 5843 shutter actuations according to that exif info, which is nothing for a Nikon dslr. Seems good for the price assuming its all in working order.

Does it come with a lens? The Kit Lens for the D70S was an 18 - 70 zoom.

I have only recently updated from my D70S, though I still use it.

The D70S was a minor upgrade on the D70 & was introduced at the same time as the D50. It seems a good price for a body that has not seem a lot of use & excellent if it has a lens too.

There has not been any Firmware Updates, so Ver 1.00 is still current.

I just thought it would have shown up any problems with it! Removed it now;)

Doesn't come with a lens afaik although I imagine a starter kit can be bought fairly cheaply?

Lots of used stuff available, have a look over on the photo equipment section on adverts.ie. You could get a new 50mm prime for about €100 also.

It was useful tho! I didn't notice the number of actuations.

Lenses can be expensive tho... but cheapish kit lenses are a good place to start.

yes, the 50mm is great, although someone new to dSLR might prefer the convenience of a zoom.

I started dSLR life with a D70 and it's a great camera. The D70s is even better, so (personally) I'd go for it!

I have seen used Kit Lenses on the Bay for about €50.

Go for it, seems to be a bargain.
