DOLE CHEATS

I am very angry about the situation I am in, I have been employed in a firm for the past 18 months and from day one I have been on the books, after starting in the job, I found out that the other 5 people working there were all on the dole and working off the books for cash in hand..... and this has caused me much stress and anger.....

I was on a poor wage of just €400 per week for 50 hour week before deductions, yet these dole cheats who work in the same place are on up to €100 per day cash in hand, on top of the dole money they get and all the other little sidelines they have going, and through these current times with the downturn in the economy, who does the boss let go...

    ME....

    It's an outrage....

This is going to sound harsh but maybe they did you a favour!
You weren't even getting minimum wage, how did you stick it out for so long?

Anyway, no point complaining here, call the Revenue on Monday and they will be delighted to hear from you. Some big fines and penalties and an audit will swiftly follow for that employer.

But if you don't report then nothing will change and realy, it's pointless complaining about it here.

I stuck the job because I needed the money and it's better than being on the dole, or so I thought..... it seems its a better life on the dole for some, take for example, one of these guys is on the dole yet can afford to go on a €6000 holiday each year, his wife can afford the annual christmas shopping trip to New York and have regular parties......... it's disgusting

More fool you if you're willing to work for under minimum wage. You're not doing anyone a favour doing this, especially yourself.
The employer thought you were a soft touch and they were right. Why didn't you raise all this when they called you in to let you go?
They let you go and you've still done nothing but focus on being bitter.

Log off boards (you've already done this :)) and getting writing a letter, dates, times, money and names.

Off to the Revenue, follow up with a call and I gurantee the revenue will be down like a ton of bricks with an audit of the place.

Don't get angry, get even! :)

Its your own fault, you should have reported this 18 months ago to the welfare and maybe your boss wouldn't have had these lads working for him.

Report them, itd be annoying enough if they were just ripping the system off but now youve suffered the loss of your job from it-definately report them

Rewarding whistleblowers ? IMO, this is hardly requisite since WB's get an orgasmic thrill from the mere fact of seeing the wirebrush inserted in the targeted orifice. Can't say I like them but I do acknowledge that there are situations that call for that kind of disclosure.

A fella I know is calling it the "Great" depression as he is claiming over €500 a week and rent allowance for the house "owned" by his brother yet built with his money.

So he draws dole and his wife does too, they get rent allowance for the house they own (although signed it to the brother for this purpose) and he is out working in the black market and his wife does domestic work and they own a farm he said they make nearly 2 grand a week between everything and have 5 kids. He says he works for the Government, I stomach churns when I see him driving a 2008 Car while another poor chap I know came to me recently and begged me to give him a job and offered to work for less than the minimum wage.

I now have him temping for €14/hour but I liked his honesty and work ethic. I rang him at 4 in the morning and he answered me and did what I needed. I'm planing on giving him and his GF a long weekend in NY for xmas for his efforts.

A letter will be going to the revenue as soon as I get it all down on paper..... scum, then in the budget, they were given more money....

What got my back up the most with this was when I found out that the other works were also claiming dole, I approached the boss and asked why the others were not going through the books, and all he said was "well, what can I do about it!", the boss would not do anything about the situation, he asked a couple of the workers to go on the books and they simply laughed and never went on the books.... and to top it all off, they are the laziest people I have ever seen, they do the least amount of work they can do, forget council workers being lazy, these guys are the ultimate in slobs!

I know that when I report them, there dole will be stopped, but what will happen to the boss?

you know, if the revenue paid me for each person I informed on, I could make a booming business out of it, I would be rich :)

Sounds like that old Black Economy is not in recession. Neither is this original thinking. Ever tried your luck with plumbers ?.....now they are just ace in the Black Econ and laughing all the way to the bank. There are certain other grades too that play very selfishly the BE game in a Ducks & Drakes manner in this economically stricken country of ours. Every single straight up PAYE payer should inform on these abuses without fail and relentlessly. You wouldn't stand beside them in the pub and allow yourself to be charged more for your drink than they, now would you ?

I presume you've already reported him to Social & Family Affairs?

You will be declaring the NY trip as a taxable benefit-in-kind -right?

I think there's a large amount of anger out there at how money is blown by our government, if I did see someone cheating the dole I would be reluctanct to report it for this reason.

Ministers having "walking around money" along with other massive expenses and wages, this type of thing makes me sick...
The Irish Independent has learned that each minister receives €12,000 in unvouched expenses each year for incidental expenses.

Known as 'walking around money', the €240-a-week, tax-free expenses payment is to reimburse them for money spent acting as a Government minister.

I second that. Banks and their willingness to accommodate naive people who thought they could have 4 holidays a year, designer clothes and a huge house for a signature or two are largely culpable - things have gotten very messy down to greed.

I know of one such fraudulent case but I am unsure whether or not to whistle blow as the person is a friend. Has anyone else ratted on a mate and what was the outcome?

Do they find out who whistle blows on them? I am awful worried this person would find out its me who told the control division about them.

    Good article on dole cheaters
    http://www.tribune.ie/news/home-news/article/2009/aug/23/the-system-bites-back-on-the-scam-artists/

Actually, how do you even go about informing Revenue? Is there a phone number or a mail address?

If you are making a report you can do so anonymously if you wish. Either call them and say you would prefer not to give your name, or write a letter and not sign it.
If you did sign your name to it though they would not tell the person they were reported. They would just do a random spot check on the person/place of employment etc. They may even surveil the place of business/home for a few days before even meeting the person.
