See here for what Pink training is.

    Here are the details
    • NUI Galway
    • Friday the 7th of November to Sunday the 9th of November
    • Accommodation paid for (no idea about travel).
As trinity students you'll have to sign up via trinity LGBT, see thread here for details. You'll need to sign up sooner rather then later, if you're interested.

I've never been myself, but supposedly it's all very worth while. I will be going this year, so if anyone from here would like some hand holding from a fellow boards.ie user, drop me a pm.

Mods: I started a new thread for this since its not happening in week two and people will need advanced notice if they intent on come. I'm not on the committee or in any way a representative of trinity LGBT, as such if a committee member requests this post be edited/deleted/ whatever I've no problem with that.

It's just like those boy scout jambourees you used to go on when you were about 12.

For anyone feeling a little "unsure" of themselves, "pink training" is the perfect environment for getting to meet plenty of those who are that way inclined.

I believe these events are extremely popular and very well attended (by both students and non-students alike) -- they're places where many a boy has found a higher state of humanity. The annual overnight jaunt that specialises in naiveity and insecurity is the perfect setting for all kinds of extroverted fanfare and the promotion of the utopian liberal agenda in modern society.

    Sounds like great craic altogether.

Forgive me if I'm being unnecessarily cynical [I've been around the block a few times, y'see], but I have the tiniest suspicion that your post was less-than-wholly-sincere.

Firstly, Pink Training is not really for those who are "unsure" of themselves, because it won't do much to persuade one either "way". [See, I can use quotes conspicuously, too!] It's for people who are pretty "sure" of themselves, but are wondering how exactly to tactfully make this fact more well-known to their families and friends [and we're not talking through body language, here]. It's also about coming to terms with the "way" they are as people, and dealing with people who think that they've "lost" or "ignored" the "right" "way".
I believe these events are extremely popular and very well attended (by both students and non-students alike) -- they're places where many a boy has found a higher state of humanity.

They are quite popular and well-attended, though I'm not quite sure as to what you mean by "higher state of humanity". Perhaps you can offer another "definition", to make your point clearer?
The annual overnight jaunt that specialises in naiveity and insecurity is the perfect setting for all kinds of extroverted fanfare and the promotion of the utopian liberal agenda in modern society.

There are all kinds of extroverted fanfare; however, I'm not sure about the rest of that sentence. I guess another "definition" is needed.

And you're right, it does sound like great craic altogether. Interested in attending this year?

Pretty much what pet said. It's a weekend of workshops covering many topics relating to LGBT people. From the sounds of things (I don't know as I've not been) the greatest benefit is that you get to meet a much wider cross section the LGBT community in Ireland. LGBT students will be come from all over the country to one, neutral, spot. Its pretty much unique in that.

    Cantab,

while Pink training may not be something that you wish to partake in there is no need to post about it in such a derogatory manner.

Many students find it a very useful expierence, and just on one small note, I do believe it is also open to women.

Yes it is. I was just referring to Cantab's comment on 'many a young boy'.

Any member of a union which is affiliated with the USI can attend afaik. We're part of the GSU so we can go, random punter off the street can't. I think Hils is making reference to the implication in cantab's post that its just for gay males.

I'm not amused. Didn't appreciate the sarcasm at the end either.

Ah you confused me. I thought this was to be about DU Pinks. Much more prestigious.

I seriously doubt there'll be many Pinks or members of the Knights of the Campanile attending "pink training".

    Cantab,

Please keep your sarcasm and disdain from this thread. Many students find pink training invaluable. I would be very surprised if there wasn't at least one Knight or Pink who has considered attending.

Keep this up and you'll be banned.

Having gone in first and second year (despite being neither a boy scout, extroverted, a liberal nor particularly unsure of myself) this is both the long and the short of it. Things I remember going to include coming-out workshops (less ridiculous than they sound), a "how to run media campaigns in your college" talk (less militant than it sounds), something about lesbians in history (a comment on which was the basis of my old "The Lesbian was invented in 1992 by Sir Arthur Lesbian" sig), a sexual health clinic and some mental health stuff. As Boston said, it's cool to meet a good cross-section of the LGBT community (not to pull the "You don't know, man, you weren't there!" card, but after years of being in secondary school and not being able to talk to people who actually get it, it's surprisingly refreshing to realise that you're not the only one), there's some interesting/useful talks and most of all it's really good craic. Plus, Galway's a cool city. I'd quite like to go this year, but unfortunately I'm otherwise occupied that weekend. Boo-urns.

Because, of course, only truly manly men can be Pinks, and truly manly men are never gay. They like women, and beer, and boobs, and manly sports, and more women, and vaginas, and showering naked with other men...I mean, "more beer". Ahem.

...what on earth makes you think that she's not? The fact that she clearly thinks you're an ignorant idiot? Is that the exclusive preserve of non-Trinity students in your mind, 'cause I have to tell you, I'm a student of this fine establishment and I think you're a jackass of gigantic proportions. Should I inform the Student Records office immediately and have them strike me off the list?

God, whatever happened to a good old-fashioned lynch mob? I suppose starting a chant of "Ban him! Ban him!" would be considered poor form?

Yes I am, not that it matters when it comes to who moderates a boards forum.

You're being offensive about a subject that matters a huge amount to many people.

    Banned for a week.

Dudes...Cantab. is an idiot, but he hasn't said anything even remotely ban-worthy. I'm not a fan of homophobic saps, but I'm even less of a fan of knee-jerk censorship and overt political correctness [and besides, he didn't attack anyone]. Can we please unban him? Allowing him to spew his misinformed bull**** does more to damage his viewpoint than any censorship ever could [what I like to call the "Fred Phelps effect"].

I imagine he's banned for continuing to drag a thread off topic after being asked to stop. No one mentioned homophobic. I'd rather the thread wasn't completely derailed.

    kthxbye.

Ps Peslo, you miss read the first line of my first post.

I don't see the problem with Cantab being banned. They got a warning about their posts and continued to do it, and anyway the ban is not permanent

Ah now. Folks, calling it a powertrip is just being sad. I'd disagree with Cantab. being banned for what he posted originally, despite having banned him previously a couple of times. His views are generally completely at odds to the rest of this forums posters, but thats never a bannable excuse. It occasionally is a warnable offence, as Hils did above which was essentially letting him know that he needs to toe a line, because otherwise this may have become another "why I think homosexuality is wrong" post from the man.

However, his reply was a cheeky pisstake shot that had no other point, and a weeks holidays here serves to remind where that line on this forum exists. IMO its not a ban for his original post, but more simply a way of reminding where said line exists.

I probably wouldn't have banned him, but at the same time I can understand why someone else would.

Anyhow, this is completely offtopic to the point of pink training, which I think has been well summarised on this thread.

On the topic of pink training, I know a number of straight friends who have attended and found it to be quite enlightening. While I think a number of them have disagreed with one or two of the modules and the attitude they've preached (similarly, I had some issues with a talk I went to during gay week where the speaker effectively put across the points that 1) all gay people are continuously bullied, and 2)that all straight folk were eseentially bullying unless they fully accepted and openly discussed others sexuality) but on the whole, anyone I know who's attended it, no matter their orientation, has viewed it as an incredibly open and enlightening session, and would quite happily encourage anyone I know who would be thinking of attending for the first time to go ahead and make the leap.

Word. He responded to a mod warning with "Are you even a student here?"; that's more than worthy of a brief time-out. Modding the mod is a moddable offense.
