New shoes - rubbing the hell out of my feet

Bought a new pair of shoes yesterday (Brooks Addiction 8) on the recommendation of Runways - I am a relatively heavy female runner and quite flat-footed, and my old shoes (New Balance 764) have become a little too big since I've lost weight. Took them out to break them in this morning on a 4 mile run, had to stop after 3 miles because the amount of rubbing going on was absolutely crazy. They were rubbing the inside of my foot, right under the arch, and there is a blister coming up on my left foot right now with a smaller one in the same position on my right foot. I know it's not the socks I was wearing as I've worn the same kind of socks to run in for quite a while.

Any ideas/advice? I've emailed Runways and I'm just waiting for a response.

It happens. Although its said modern shoes don't need to be broken in, I always wear them around the house for a few days and go for short walks with them on just to get used to them. All shoes can have 'hot spots' which will rub on your feet but should mold to your feet after a short while.

I got a response from Runways on Monday, and exchanged the shoes yesterday. They were replaced with a pair of New Balance 1062 on the recommendation of the guy in the shop (I was a little unsure about this, as I am flat-footed and this is a neutral shoe). Ran 5k in them today on the treadmill - they are very comfortable due to the massive amount of cushioning, but towards the end of the 5k it felt like the shoe was drifting to the outside and it felt like my foot was sitting weirdly in the shoe.

    What's happening there?

Strange - did you get the gait analysis thing done Kirby? And they recommended two different models, neither of which are right? At least they seem to be trying.

I struck lucky first time years ago with my Asics Gel Cumulus and have stuck with them ever since. (Buying new ones now and again like :))

For the first ones they got me to stand on a pad which determined my foot shape (I am quite flat-footed). He didn't do a full gait analysis because I made the mistake of coming to the shop in large flares on a rainy day.

So we're at motion control shoes giving me blisters, and neutral shoes giving delicious cushioning but feeling weird and the shoes themselves moving in a strange way...
At least I know now that I like lots of cushioning - though as a 180lb girl I could have guessed that anyway!

Why wouldn't they do a gait analysis??,you could roled up your trousers.
having flat feet doesn't neccessarily mean you over pronate but most times people do !!!
Who did your gait analysis in Runways???
I have purchased runners there before but the guy that did it has since left.(kevin)
brooks addiction v new balance 1062 are complete opposite runners,
one has a platform for a high arch and the other is for flat feet with alot of control features.
Sometimes certain brands might not suit your feet.I think you will probably get more problems with the 1062's further down the line.1011 0r 817 would be a much better option in new balance range if you are a severe over pronator.
atleast they exchanged your trainers, hope they work out for you.Daniel
