I'm so annoyed! All of the students registered on Monday. We have a new administrator who's only been in the job a week. Our loans should have been in our accounts this morning but they weren't there. We phoned the student loans company and they said we weren't registered! We went to see the administrator and the idiot said, "Oh sorry, I didn't know I was meant to let the student loans company know." She said she would let the loans company know then and there, and did something on the computer.
Every philosophy student in the whole university is now penniless. Some of us have rents due to pay next week and no money! The hardship fund said they could write us cheques on Monday but that's no good, they won't clear in time. We phoned the student loans company just now to check the progress and the t**t still hasn't let them know! I'm so p*ssed off I think I'm going to make an official complaint. The university grounds are milling with students wondering around trying to get financial help now, and all the hardship fund says is, "You get a cheque on Monday, or nothing. That's all we can do." Honestly, it's the university's fault, they should have to give us cash! Now I need to try and beg borrow or steal money to pay my rent!

Say to your landlord that due to a mess up beyond your control you won't be able to pay until a week after.

Or just don't pay any rent at all, then wait til you get evicted and bring the landlord to court and get yourself a nice, big, fat payoff! :D

Get used to it! Philosophy students end up penniless anyway.

Here take a lie down on this leather couch. What does this mean to you, tell me your deep rooted feelings. Is it because you rubbed your penis off your mums belly while you were still in the womb? Hmm, interesting <jots some notes>

    jesus christ OP.

You'd swear you were the first college student who couldnt afford to pay rent on time.

Landlords deal with this all the time. Long as it's paid [and your landlord isnt a dick] you'll be fine.

    ^^ Yup!

Just explain to your landlord what happened, and unless he's totally unreasonable, he won't mind, and then just pay him up in full with no arrears owing and you'll be fine.

Stuff like this happens all the time, just so long as you don't make a habit of it (not that it's your fault in this case) you'll be grand.

Money creates problems when we do not have it, and yet more problems when we do have it. But it is only an illusion that we are in control of our money: in actual fact we do not notice how subtly and intensively it exercises control over us.

Discuss that with your smelly philosophy buddies until the college bails you out. The amount of hot air produced will keep you warm if the land-lord isn't feeling forgiving.

I didn't read the whole topic line correctly and thought this was going to be about something completely different. Ah well....

As much as I agree with ya, as it is so very true, I think the OP is more annoyed at the whole mess-up alone, and just using rent as one of the examples that'll now be affected due to it.

No offence, but get over it!!

I opened up this thread to hear about how something terrible happened, like they fecked up your exam results, or forgot to employ a lecturer to teach you, but instead you're moaning because your money is late?????

Be grateful your getting a loan/grant and grow up.

true, but it was a new admin a week in the door, something was gonna happen.

Maybe all the penniless philosophy students should have a march and protest outside the administrators office?

Getting all riled up and angry should keep the cold out for a hour or two and then you can slink off to your windowless garret, too cold to sleep with only bitterness for a blanket

so all Philosophy students get the grant? its October FFS if you had worked all summer you'd have rent to x-mass.

I like the sound of all this free money malarkey, what 'hardships' must I undergo to qualify for this 'hardship fund'?

I'm likely to have a hangover tomorrow if that's any help. Free money would definitely help ease my suffering.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 817 ✭✭✭Burial

I think you have to be an emo to qualify.

get a job? most students i know have a job.
if you want uni cock ups...

a friend of mine failed an assignment/exam in 2nd year, was told he'd be ok with passing by compensation. all was well.

untill 3rd year christmas exams: he was told he wasn't registered as he was still a second year and had to pay the full fees to repeat the year ~(5000 or so).
noone had told him he wasn't a final year, he'd been going to final year classes and all. that is a cock up, you have a booboo, tops.

Be honest now... Are you more pissed about not paying the rent or being short on beer money?
