Sartorial question concerning gentlemens suits.

I am of a larger frame...(stop sniggering out there)...and as such I prefer to wear double brested suits. The problem is that there are so many single brested suits that look so good and I want to wear them. My question is, can I wear a double brested waistcoat with a single breasted suit (english cut) or is that a sartorial shot in the foot?

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Think it could look a bit busy under your suit jacket - depending on the style of the waistcoat.

I doubt it would look good.

Only undertakers and actuaries wear waistcoats these days.

What about barristers? They are all over the place at the four courts but I have never seen a double breasted one!

I thought about that already and I decided that if I was going the the double breasted option I would have it cut with a long gorge so that it would be hidden by a fastened jacket rather then peeking above jacket. Going to have the waistcoat cut in matching material to the suit.
    Nice link, thanks.

But I like waistcoats. I'm sure they will be fashionable again and I'll be ahead of the possee!

Well I've bitten the bullet. Ordered the suit yesterday, single breasted jacket, double breasted waistcoat and fingers crossed that it will be alright. If not I'll just have to get a single breasted vest made up.
    Thanks all.

I think that if that's what you like and it looks good then go for it :)

are double breasted things in general not a bit 80s/early-90s?
