Hi I have an entry for this years marathon. Due to injury I won't be able use it. If there is anybody out there who would like it free of charge they can PM me. I would hate to see it go to waste (especially in these 1980 recession type days :))

I may get an earful over this offer, I've seen posts before where people don't believe in transferring numbers etc. From a safety point of view there is usually room to write your name, address and emergency contact number on the back of the number so people won't get you confused with me in the case of emergency. If this is against boards rules apologies.

Hello, my name is Frank and I'm a 23 year old who would dearly love to run the Dublin marathon

I would be very interested in this number if still available. I have already trained suffiecient to run the marathon but was too late for the sign-up. If you still have the number available for sale you can contact me @ fleader@rcsi.ie, it would make my year.
I would be willing to pay extra for your number if you still have it!

    Regards, Frank Leader

This guy (thread here) seems desperate.

No disrespect to Frank but hopefully you can give it to Shafto given how much he has raised for charity.

That being said, I really don't see how you can go to the bother of raising all that money and end up being late for registering. The registration was open for what? 10 months?

No hey that's perfectly reasonable, if this shafto character is raising money then it makes sense... just putting it out there, v. interested in a number if it becomes available - I also feel pretty remiss failing to register.

Anyone who knows someone with a number my offer still stands.

    Thanks!

If another person collects your number but does'nt return the chip the original applicate will be fined. The organisers have your credit card number and will just debit the fine (15eur I think). Can you really trust someone you don't know. If these people were really serious about running the marathon they would have applied on time. If they really want to run start training and enter on time next year.

good point. Sorry I have promised the number to another boardsie already. I'm just hoping race etiquette prevails and he returns the chip etc.

Sorry to others but I always said first to pm me would get it. Hope others have luck gaining entry.

Bah.. who cares about the 15 euro if he doesn't return the chip? Fair play to the person who can outrun the chip collectors at the end of 26 miles is all I say. What if the poor lad dies on route? He's got no issurance as road runner is insured but not not the lad who takes over the number. I appreciate the generosity of road runner giving up his number but unless the organisers agree to transfers it should be avoided.

If he dies en route, insurance will be feck all use to him :) I'm hearing what your saying about the insurance though but that is a risk he is willing to take obviously !

If you want to look for (or sell) race numbers ...then check that the race allows transfers (most don't). I'll close any threads that don't do this.
