Ok, so with all this talk of recession amongst us, how many of you are feeling the pinch?

After PRSI, taxes etc.. are deducted from your wages, along with necessary bills - Mortgage/Rent, ESB/Gas, Phone/Broadband etc.. how much are you left with at the end of the week (Before you take food bills, car running costs etc.. into account) ?

Do you live from week to week, or do you try to set aside some each week for a "rainy day" (Is there any other kind in Ireland??)

How much are you left with after tax/PRSI deductions and after all bills are paid? 50 votes

Quite a bit actually....and I'm by no means rich, I earn less than most of my friends probably yet they're all broke at the end of the week and live at home with no bills while I have to pay rent, bills etc....don't get it. I'm not a miser either, just don't have expensive means and not stupid with my money I guess.

Why is there no < 0 option? Also, what of those who are paid monthly?

I get paid monthly, and within a week of getting it, I have between €0 & €-100 to spend. Bills get paid, but that's it. Nowt to do with the recession though, in fact I don't think it will affect me much at all (touch wood).

I generally have about E250 left at the end of each week. Usually spend most of it then on luxuries, do try to put a bit away though.

Ouch!! Did you recently change jobs/places or something or have a change in circumstances? I'm sure you'll be outta the red come next pay day though! :)

I'm kinda the same, don't earn a whole lot, but I do try to keep an eye on my outgoings, still manage to spend lots on things I don't need and general crap though! Similarly I know people who earn a lot more and are constantly broke and have nothing to show for it. I try to keep an even balance between fun + spending and outright manic splurging though.

My childcare fees are e1150 per month, electricity e80, phone e50, groceries e600 (cut that down enormously because of Lidl), SKY e60, petrol e200, credit card e100 (due to supporting children in World Vision and donations to Irish Cancer Society) - I've actually nothing left at the end of the month but luckily share an account with my husband! In the last 3 weeks I've been to the doctor 4 times with sick children (e180) plus prescriptions (approx e50). The unexpected bills make it difficult.

Hmmm, yeah you're right, didn't think of the < 0 option, not sure if I can edit the poll now and include it though?

Re: Monthly salaries.. It's just a general anonymous poll, obviously it's not going to be wholly accurate, just a general overview. I guess for those getting paid monthly just work it out weekly and assess tax/prsi deductions and bills as appropriate on a weekly basis?

I didn't want to make the poll overly complicated with weekly and monthly options, and obviously everyone has ad hoc outgoings too like house/car insurance etc.. It's just a general day-to-day type thing.

Fair play to you for supporting some very worthy charities on such a regular basis!

Yeah, doctors fees can be expensive, over the past week had to spend over E300 alone just on appointments and medication, and that was just for a chest infection!

I don't think personally the recession is going to effect me personally either, all the same I'm sure I'll probably start looking to see where I can cut back. All this doom and gloom talk is getting to me!

I try to limit myself to €100 a week for food, train and everyday expenses so I have money left for emergencies. It all just seems to go though.

Half my income goes on college and car loans and rent.

I spend about €20 every two weeks on junk food and trains. :pac:

    That's most of my expenditure.
