Hi, I am enrolling on a photography course in the new year and one of the requirements of the course is to have a manual camera, by this i presume they mean any camera with a manual lens. Is this correct? And could anyone recommend a good camera, was looking at the Nikon D300 but i think its a bit out of my price range.

I would gather that you are required to have a camera that has manual settings - ISO, aperture, shutter speed.

Most dSLRs would have such functions.

You could always consider the Canon 1000D or the Canon 450D too, and see if they are within your budget.

Some bridge cameras will also offer manual settings.

He is spot on. If you are strapped for cash Fuji do a nice range of fully manual bridge cameras.

i'd suggest that the only people who can answer that question are the course organisers, and would strongly suggest confirming it with them.
especially before you buy a camera.

Yep, they'll be able to advise on minimum requirements for the course.. that's a good starting point. :)
