Logic Training/Tutorials?

I was wondering if anyone of ye know any good books/DVD's that can train you in using Logic better and improve your production skills??

I don't have the money to afford those Logic 101 course and stuff. I was wondering if i can find any cheaper and effective option to get myself better familiar with the software and production practices.

    Apple recommends this: http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321502922
So can anyone tell me if its any good (and if i can buy it somewhere here) or if there's something better you can recommend me.

I'ld prefer a DVD kinda thing more than a book cuz i always get bored reading books n stuff (and my short attention span), so something like a DVD serious would be more effective. But i wouldn't mind books either. If they're kinda good and interactive ya know.

I have the book you link too. It's excellent - I have used Logic for a good few years, but wanted something to get me up to speed on V8 quickly. The book is very easy to follow & comes with several tutorials with the relevant Logic files on a CD. Each chapter takes about an hour to 90 mins to work through & by the time you have finished you should have a reasonably thorough overview. Interestingly, one of the tracks is a multitrack version of a song called "Mitral Valve Prolapse" by Joe Hedges. IMO this is a really good song really well recorded. Comparing the fully mixed version with the unadorned audio files is an education in itself.

Hi JJV, I don't think you named the logic book in your post (apologies if I am wrong). I would be very interested in getting it.

    Thanks

AF, there are some great videos on YOUTUBE for Logic. Type in sflogicninja in you tube. This guy has done some great stuff. There's another guy, farout5150, he has only recently started posting stuff which is pretty good for the beginner. His videos are very funny if you aren't too PC.

    All the best.

    Rock.

Thanks JJV, I must have a look to see if anyone is selling this on e bay. I had a listen to some of the stuff on your link. The sound quality was excellent.
The book obviously worked for you.

    Thanks again.

    Rock.

Hmm... some of the better sounding stuff on my site is the RTECO recorded in Windmill Lane & engineered by Andrew Boland - You wouldn't expect it to sound too shabby!

Anyway, thanks for the compliment. Thoroughly recommend the book. I think I will buy the advanced version as well soon

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I'll look into getting that book off amazon sometime in the future... once i manage to get a credit card.
Till then i'll look into the youtube guys.
I did check out the sflogicninja guy. His stuff is pretty good.
But i was looking for a more progressive and interactive learning thing like you'ld get on a DVD or something cuz it'ld help and make me do stuff instead of just passively listening and watching it all.

AF, that sounds like something I would also be interested in. Let me know if you find anything.

Then I would have a look at macprovideo.com or groovebox music.com. In my experience though, looking at videos is not a great way to learn. By the time you have got round to sitting down in front of Logic you have forgotten all the tricks the guy was showing you. A bit of interaction goes a long way if you want to remeber the stuff & actually working on (well recorded) audio & listening to the results is invaluable.

    Just my opinion.

    .

I agree, I got a few of them before and got bored quickly.

A bit of interaction goes a long way in a lot of things ....

Videos rock, obviously in the flesh is the best as the lads say but the videos are a nice way of learning, better than no video at all.

Sure, i'ld prefer watching a video to reading a book any day!
But a bit of interractive workshop kinda thing would be perfect where you could try out the stuff along with the tutorial to instantly apply all the tricks n stuff n get the results yourself!

Check out http://www.logicprohelp.com its a great resource, they can get a bit technical over there but its not long before you pick things up. The author of Logic Pro 8 and Logic Express 8 David Nahmani is the moderator.
