Book recommendations

Anyone got any good reading recommendations? I'm interested in books that talk about the philosophy of music and sound, as opposed to the personalities and business end of music, which most titles seem to cover.

For my part I recommend "On Sonic Art" by Trevor Wishart.

Will have a look in the college library, can't remember off hand but have used a few great ones in my research over the last year or two.

Can't go wrong with Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks if you're interested in the psychology behind music. Good read.

Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics by A.H. Benade (if you google you'll get the pdf version)
The Science of Musical Sounds by J. Sundberg

These were all on my reading list for a post grad module I studied on acoustics and psychoacoustics, dunno, maybe they might be slightly more science based than you were looking for.

I recently read Noise/Music by Paul Hegarty which is a fantastic overview of the history of noise music (and also a critique of the whole thing). Very interesting read.

I have The Rest is Noise: Listening to the 20th Century by Alex Ross but haven't delved into it yet.

The Algorythmic Composer by David Cope was recommended to me before, and have always been meaning to get it.

I keep meaning to get that too. On a similar topic, I've read Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks and that's well worth reading.

One David Toop's books "Ocean of Sound" is great if you are into ambient type music etc.
