Bathroom refurbishment: product & supplier advice wanted

We have a few bathrooms in our home that are in dire need of refurbishment. We moved in two years ago and the previous owners had "strange" decor tastes.
It will be a job for life, so we will be aiming for top quality fittings etc, but in the current climate would prefer not to spend the kids college fees!
Any advice as to where would be worth visiting for the better quality stuff. I pass Ideal Bathrooms in Ballymount, but after that. I guess we will go looking for a modern "european" look.
All suggestions welcome. ( Both brands & locations)
