Not much is known about this, accept that it's rumored to be set in Russia. It was thought that Paul Andrew Williams was to direct but apparently that is not true.

So, what do we think? Should they make another? I personally loved both the original and the sequel so really can't complain! And i'll be looking forward to it! Supposed release in 2009.

Aye, 28 Weeks Later was a fairly good sequel, so if they keep up the standard, it'll be worth a watch.

When will it stop? Looking forward to the sci-fi "28 Centuries Later" in a few years!

28 Weeks Later finishes off in Paris with the infected running. Bad news as the infection has spread to mainland europe. I hope it does well.

Incidentially the movie set in Scotland (Doomsday) is set roughly 28 years later after the initial outbreak so the sequal after that should be very interesting (should they do it).

I think if this were a success (critically) then i'd love to see a 28 Years Later, that really could be a step in the Sci Fi direction which if taken advantage of, could prove very interesting.

    Worst load of crap ever.

Loved the first 2, 3rd if the same standard will be good.

28 weeks later gave me nightmares for weeks, I kid you not! And I haven't had nightmares in about 10 years. I really liked it, didn't like the typical horror convention they followed to
kill off each of the main characters in ever more gruesome ways as the story moved along. My lord, that eye gouging scene where carlisle becomes infected was one of the freakiest things I have seen.

Adore the first film.. but was left a bit cold by the second one.

Not sure why.. think I just couldn't help but compare it to to the first one (which was just phenomenal - soundtrack, direction, camera-work, performances - everything!) but the second one (while very watchable) is not even in the same class in my eyes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

    Yeah, I'd agree with that.

28 Weeks Later is a solid film by an excellent director, but it doesn't have that certain je ne sais quoi of its predecessor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭longshanks

yeah the first one was class. the second had a good opening scene, the chase, the music etc. had me expecting great things. the pile of festering cock that followed was unforgiveable. the last 30 seconds weren't bad i suppose, ideal for another sequel

Oh certainly, the first film is superior by far, but I feel that 28 Weeks was something special in it's own right. Usually when a horror film has a sequel made without the original director or writers, it's disasterous. See the sequels for the likes of A Nightmare On Elm Street, Saw, The Exorcist, Halloween and so on, they've all been very poor. I generally greet horror sequels with a lot of scepticism, but 28 Weeks Later beat the odds by being a very worthy successor.

Aside from a few major plot holes, my main criticism is the fact that the film just plays out the overfamiliar outbreak scenario, something that's just overfamiliar and overdone in the whole zombie genre. Yes, I know people are going to say, they're not actually zombies, but for all intents and purposes the film follows the same trappings of the genre. Still though, with that said, I still loved 28 Weeks Later.

I loved the first one and didn't watch the second one until it came out on DVD for the reasons that Karl have said, But I thought it was as good as the first one for the simple fact that i thought it was going to be cock, Really enjoyed them both.

Thank god Paul Andrew Williams is not going todo it, That film the cottage starring jennifer ellisons Tits was just terrible, I would love to think that Cillian Murphy would return to say "tie up" the films.

Hope they end it well its been so long since a decent trilogy has been released.

28 Days Later was very good. Really freaked me out, and had some fantastic scenes. 28 Weeks Later just didnt do it for me. I'm not really sure why though. It was just missing something. Hopefully, this one will be good though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 316 ✭✭RastaRed

hopefully the 3rd will keep the high standards of the 1st two, I thought 28 weeks later was better than the original

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

I loved both of the first two movies.
What I especially loved about them is how they took the sequel in a differnet direction, akin to Alien & Aliens.
Throwing in alot of familiarity but keeping things differnet...if that makes any sense.

And that opening scene, that terrified the bejaysus out of me.

Not sure I like the premise of 28 Months Later. Russia etc...

What I'd love to see is 28 Minutes Later.

Ha, i forgot about that opening chase scene, i have to say that's probably one of my favourite scenes ever! Truly terrifying! You're almost running with him!:)

    You're almost running with him!:)

Christ, that's worse than people shouting at the screen. Stop running about and sit down you git, I'm trying to watch the film!!! :pac:

I wasnt made on the second movie i have to admit. It wasnt the worst movie made at all, but it didnt excite me like the first one.

A third movie risks diluting the series even more or trying to explain everything or wrapping it up.

There are a few areas of the film that caused it to be the inferior film of the two in my eyes. Firstly i found that the casting in the second one irked me to a degree. It felt very American in so far as casting irritating snot-nosed kids to become the strong heroes of the film.

The other disappointing difference between the two films is the soundtrack. The first one had a varied soundtrack culminating with "In the House" at the climax. The second one had only one song, "In the House". I was almost expecting it to be playing when Robert Carlyle's character was taking a dump, that was the extent to which it was overplayed. John Murphy is a terrific composer but it was terrible to not fully utilize his abilities. I imagine Sunshine would have lost some of its quality had they used "Surface of the Sun" to the same extent that they played "In the House".

Nonetheless it is still a darn good film and a thrill to watch. It can hold its own with most other horror/thriller films but due to its name it has the misfortune of being compared to its superior older brother.

    What?

The second film had a complete soundtrack!
The only song that was re-used was 'in the house'....which is now re-titled as 'the 28 theme'.

.. yet all I remember is "In The House" because it was played about 5 or 6 times during the movie. Kinda ruined the suspense of the song, I thought.

Both good films but I have to say I prefer 28 weeks more. 28 Days is far superior for the first half of the movie, but I have to say after the roadblock and journey to the makeshift fortifications it goes a little downhill and looses much of the suspence/interest.

But what can you really say about 28 months later, a new zombie movie is ALWAYS good news in this day and age of 'The Hottie and the Nottie' and Cop thrillers.

That's something I heard a lot of, people saying that once the military was introduced, it was the cut-off point for them. But honestly, I loved it. There's something about the grimness of that act, it reminded me of Day of the Dead in a lot of ways.

I'm with Karl. I thought it was a good film up until that point, after the milirary came into it up until the credits I was floored by how much I was loving it.

I'm looking forward to this movie. The first was incredible, the 2nd was great but not as good.

I'd love to see a prequel

28 minutes later.. And show the original breakout and widespread chaos that followed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

That whole Farmhouse segment in the 2nd film was stunning - i was on tenterhooks throughout ; Definitely one of the stronger film openings of last year.

Mebbe get Boyle back on board as director for the third?

Yea I'd prefer a prequel, 28 days Earlier could easily work.
I thought the squeal was great though, especially the opening ten minutes.
When I saw the opening scene in the cinema with Robert Carlyle running through the fields it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
While it wasn't as good as the first one it was still a fairly good squeal
which is a rare thing these days.

It would have to be 28 Minutes Later, from the point that the animal liberation group rampage out of the laboratory, to the degeneration of society that Cillian Murphy wakes up to. And the actors from the earlier films could have cameo roles in the background before society breaks down. Murphy getting knocked off his bike, Carlysle bringing his kids to the airport, etc.

I really enjoyed the 1st movie, but I thought the 2nd one was really silly. There were way too many plot-holes for me to suspend belief and none of the leads were engaging.

The zombie movie that I'm really looking forward to (and the 28 franchise "zombies" aren't zombies) is World War Z. The book is great and I've read a great review of Straczynski's script. I just hope it gets made.
