I am conducting a survey (i am a student and i am now making a study over matrial arts). So if you answer these questions, you will help me a lot ! thank you so much for your time. Appreciate it buddies!

    1--Mention the years you train
2--Mention the injuries that you experienced during these years
3--Mention the level you trained (how many times per week?, professional?)
4--Mention where you got it (tournament, during practice in the class)
    5--Mention how you got hit
6--Mention how long it took them to heal

I hope i will publish my study after i finish it. Thanks a lot guys!

relax man , dont be so suspicious ! just asking.

    But you know what?

    I am surprised guys.
You could be healthy doing gym, eating well and not having stress (positive thinking).

There are happy guys out there, who don't practice martial arts. Why do you have to strain
yourselves like that (sensitive areas injuries like spine, neck etc) just to gain benefits that can be
gained doing other not so dangerous things ?

Only practitioners can answer - and i am not a practittioner in MA but that doesnt mean i cannot study it.

So if me - a non practitioner - comes across with so many injuries, its logic to wonder : why are these people so happy with this sport despite of so many injuries?

    just my humble question....

Are you trying to imply that there are more injuries associated with Tai Chi and Aikido then there are motorracing? horceracing? rugby? ice hockey?

I have been doing martial arts over 7 years and I have never had a broken bone or injury that stopped me training. I am a traditional martial artist and do semi-contact mostly. I have done BJJ/MMA for a brief period of 3 months, and I was never injured doing that either. I know more people that have been injured from overtraining in a gym than in my vast enough martial experience. I know boxers, thai boxers, kickboxers and they are rarely injured. I think your perceptions of the martial arts and combat sports are either deluded or seriously warped. It would be the same across the board. Injuries in combat sports/ martial arts would be on a par with GAA/Soccer/Rugby and may even be lower.

Just a suggestion: Would it be possible for the OP to email a mod (through the student email address as kind of like an ID) State where you are studying, what your project is, and if its a thesis / project. Im sure loads of people would help you out and in return you could let us know your findings etc.

My own 2c is that this wouldnt be the most reliable way to get info. If there are any martial arts clubs in your college / area im sure they would be fine with you coming in for a few minutes at the end a session with a quick survey.

    Bets of luck with it.

I very am disappointed by the no replies.

From a previosu study about WHY people do MA, these were my findings. Please feel free to agree with them

    1. he can dominate almost any other person
    2. he is doing the best martial art
    3. he felt inferiority complex. now he feels significant among his friends.
    4. he can speak out without fear of getting bullied if his opinions were not likeable to the ears of others
    5. he can impress his friends or his girlfriend with the spectacular movements and
    6. he persuades himself and shows the image of someone who is dealing with dirty crazy stuff like "chokes, locks, etc" and the fact that he is undergoing huge effort (despite of injuries) is an indication of himself being a tough gyu instead of a 'gay' fearful person.
    7. the sense of being a member of a 'strong' family (gracies) and of a strong group of people(school).

Ur fcuked now with that reply.
That survery looks like it came from a bunch of non martial people not MA guys bar for point number 7.
Sure you get a lot of idiots doing martial arts but most of these drop by the wayside after time.
I know a lot of people long term (15years+) plus and every one of them are intelligent and dead on...no arrogance whatsoever. As I always say to myself "these are the guys not to cross" not the idiot showing off his moves in a pub or on the street.
Remember when I was about 16 (long time ago :D) going to a local nightclub...local gob****es decided to pick on a nerdy guy with glasses and his girlfriend...they got the fright of their life when he turned out to be a belt in karate and ended up kicking the crap out of about 5 of them...me and my mates were laughing our bollix off at that..

Funny, you didn't ask a single question about the mentality behind it, merely the types of injuries, whether they were training or comp related and healing times.

    Yeah, i'm with Cowzerp.

If you want to do a genuine study them send me a PM and i will be expecting some kind of proof.

    Other than that, thread locked.
