    hey guy
    hope all is well
i have a macbook running OS X and i also have bootcamp with WINDOWS XP available.
Xp has started to get slow and i want to reinstall & reformat.

How do i go about doing this.

is it the very same as if i were to reformat windows on a purely windows machine, by just hitting f12 and booting from disc etc?

    thanks very much,
    ed

Definitely avoid something like that, it'll screw everything up, very likely including the Mac OS X partition as well. As Babypink said, just use Bootcamp's installer to set up from scratch and it'll take you through the various steps involved.

It's funny (or maybe, sad) that Windows users just accept stuff like this as a fact of life :(

Windows does get slower over time but mainly due to the registry getting bloated, unless you are installing and uninstalling hundreds of programs this shouldn't happen in only a few months. So you have got a malware infection (or probably a few at once.) After you reinstall, make sure you are protected with anti-virus (e.g. AVG) and anti-spyware (Spybot, Ad-Aware, preferably both) software for your Windows partition and keep them, and Windows, updated at least once a week.

    How well does bootcamp work?
Apple claim it works at full speed, but I've heard otherwise.

I rarely use it but it seems to work at full speed and why wouldn't it? All Boot Camp does is provide a layer to install and then dual boot Windows - since XP in particular cannot be installed on an EFi-only system (no BIOS essentially). Once in Windows, you're running it as if installed on an equivalent spec PC - nothing is virtualized like VMs have to do.
