k, so i have a court summons over an esb bill that was put into my name by an old landlord after we moved out..

i need some legal advice because in my understanding of the law, i didn't knowingly enter this contract.. so why am i held accountable? nevermind having to cover the other people in the house.

so anyway, is a regular solicitor the best to contact? or is there alternatives for law advice?

help/... i want to be able to call my old landlord and quote a law that will make him cover the other people in the house. fair's fair?

Yeah, your best option is to speak to a solicitor, especially if this is an issue that requires sorting out soon. If, on the other hand, you have some time to do some research, try and find out if there's a legal advice centre near you that you can call (in to).

By "legal advice centre" you mean what exactly? Because it isn't very clear and has the potential to confuse readers of this post. Do you mean the state run Legal Aid Board Law Centres? Or the Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC)? Regarding the Legal Aid Board they will only deal with people who meet the threshold requirements of a means test, which essentially means that only those who are on social welfare will be eligible for this. There is also a very long waiting lists at most Centres, running from a few weeks to a few months before you can even meet with a solicitor. As the OP said he is willing to pay so he is unlikely to qualify in any event! In relation to FLAC they will only offer very general advice, establish whether there is a legal solution to their problem, explain what options are open to them and direct them to where they may obtain further assistance. They will not act on his behalf as such.

    Their websites are:

In my opinion your only realistic option is to instruct a 'regular' solicitor privately. This really is bread and butter stuff for a general practice solicitor and it shouldn't cost a fortune either. As they will know the full facts, they will be in a position to advise you fully about the situation, your options and the best approach to deal with the problem.

Try contacting whatever solicitor issued the summons against you and see if you can sort out matters with them.

If not there are numerous solicitors' offices in Galway, and also offices now in Oranmore, Moycullen Headford.
