i'm trying to access ipoker from italy, when i start up the program it runs but something is blocking it from logging in,i am connected to the server since i can see what games are running, but when i try to login the sections in the top right and across the bottom that usually advertise promotions or whatever are redirected to the same website all gambling sites are redirected to in italy, since online gambling is banned here. a message comes up saying cannot connect to the gaming server, can only continue in offline mode.

any ideas on how to bypass this?

with other poker sites, once you have the client on your computer you can connect to them, but unfortunately i don't have money in any of the other sites!

Cannot connect to gaming server generally means your inet connection. Are you using wireless?

no its nothing to do with my connection,i am connected and even connected to ipoker,i can view tables in the lobby, see who is sitting, etc.

its to with the italian goverment ban on poker sites, somehow this is triggered when i try to login. other poker software is fine.

I don't think there is anything you can do. You could try to setup some proxy outside of Italy, but I presume they are constantly monitoring such things.

If you are in Italy for a long time, you could purchase a dedicated server in australia or somewhere cheap enough. Basically rent a separate computer. You could just connect remotely to that computer and play from there! Issues with that are the connection to the server needs to be very fast, you'll get lag between the two etc - would make playing more than 2 tables very difficult

edit: and security too, the hosting company would be able to monitor anything you do on the rented server... actually scrap that idea- it's full of additional problems!

Well done on your exploits in Malta Robin! You should find the guy who sold you the package and taunt him!

out of curiosity,do you have a source for this?

if it was, then either it hasn't come into effect yet or no one told vodaphone

A load of Italians appeared online out of nowhere about a month ago, someone said in the BBV thread that it was because online poker has been legalised there, but I haven't seen a source for this anywhere.

    Theres a bit here http://europe.cardplayer.com/poker-news/article/playtech-expands-italian-poker-market-presence

This is a few months old but I think poker is still a bit of a quagmire...

You could be right regarding vodafone's snail pace.

yeah i found reference to that playtech thing when i was googling earlier, didnt really read much about it but presumed they were providing software for some sort of legal government monopoly, maybe i got it wrong though.

haven't figured out a way around it yet but i did manage to set up a transfer to moneybookers so i should be able to just deposit on another site tomorrow, almost all the others seem to work fine

There were a good few stories doing the rounds at the time (1 month ago)
This is the only one I could find after a brief search just now.

I was in Italy all last year and had no problems playing on ipoker, so I think the problem might be something else. The advertising banners would reroute to tha page about gambling being illegal, but I could play without any problem. It was GJP, though I can't imagine how the skin could make a difference.

ok well i've moved to a different hotel and can access it fine here,so it looks like its just that the generic vodaphone connection i was on hasn't got around to unblocking the sites yet.

cheers for all the advice regardless.
