jacKit are very proud to announce Chris Duckenfield as our first international guest DJ this coming Halloween night at one of Dublins most popular and intimate venues, The Underground @ Kennedys (which has just been newly renovated).

Chris Duckenfield was an acid house legend as early as 1989 when his first residency (at the Limit club in Sheffield) went from 150 to 1200 people in the space of three weeks. By 1991 he was releasing records on Warp and the Warp affiliated Nucleus Label. In late 96, the Warp shop (Sheffield), where Chris had worked throughout the nineties, closed. Chris found he could devote all his time to running his new ‘Primitive’ label and step up the DJ and recording schedule. Releases from himself together with Richard Brown, and local talent got the label firmly established. Later down the line their more twisted ‘Odori’ label was launched.

With "Ducky" being one of our all-time favourite DJs and producers ever and an absolute underground house music legend to boot, we are EXTREMELY excited about this night, and have been for some time.

Chris is probably better known for his productions as part of SWAG with Richard Brown, not to mention his more recent solo efforts under his Duckbeats moniker. SWAG and Chris himself have been making killer tracks and brilliant remixes since the mid-90s with countless releases on labels such as Primitive, Odori, Warp, Version Music, dotbleep and Music For Freaks to name but a few. They have also remixed artists as varied and highly respected as Groove Armada, Bjork, Moloko, Dublex Inc, Lisa Shaw, Metro Area, Fred Everthing, Atjazz, Ian Pooley, Herbert and Blaze.... the list goes on and on, you get the idea we\'re sure.

Chris himself is not only a superb producer when going solo or as one half of SWAG, but also a fantastic DJ who really knows how to rock a crowd with his deep, bumpy, squelchy, acidy, fidgety as well as techy influenced sounds (just ask the patrons at Fabric or Panorama Bar in Berlin). All fantastically excellent underground house music with lashings of techno really.... He even likes a bit of disco too! Always with at least one eye very firmly latched onto the dancefloor.

Here's a little bit about the man himself, penned by the man himself (and refreshingly not in the third person for a change!)

I'm 36, male, and live in Sheffield in the north of England (once famous for Steel and Electronic Pop). I now play other people's records for a living, and make a few of my own. Once upon a time I studied English, with a view to becoming a teacher. I also studied - at great length - LSD, music and the art of the compilation tape (not necessarily at the same time). Eventually, music and LSD convinced me teaching was for elderly men, with beards, and an unusual passion for corduroy.

Despite being something of a dribbling participant in the biggest youth movement of the late 20th century, I actually must have learnt quite alot whilst staggering around the Hacienda, Kool Kat, Jive Turkey & Occasions.

So it was with a sense of confusion, a small record collection and even smaller amount of talent that I became a DJ. In 1989 I got my first residency, along with DJ buddy at the time, Richard Benson. I learnt the art of making people dance, and putting records together 'on the job', the crowd were very tolerant and enthusiastic about this (see, extremely high) we also had a successful pirate radio show (as Asterix and Space).

Rave band Altern8 sampled me from the radio show saying 'Watch Your Bass Bins, I'm Tellin' Ya' - I'll never live it down.

We played at a few raves for 12 - 15,000 people, for about 50 quid each - strange times.

So, I got a proper job in the WARP record store, even made a few records for them (as RAC) some of which were OK. It was through WARP that I met Richard Brown. We're still working together to this day. We started a joint project called SWAG (due to the fact that we made every tune we did from samples), since then we\'ve done quite a few records, and even more remixes for other people, some of them are quite good. I also run a label called Odori and used to run one called Primitive - We do some nice things with those too, releasing our own curiously popular output as well as music from like-minded artists who choose to throw out the rule book in favour of more forward thinking sounds.

Apart from all that I run my own little second hand record grocery DUCKBEATS RECORDS

Having been Djing for 15 odd years, I think I've just about got a handle on it. I spend ludicrous amounts of money on music, forsaking many material essentials such as settee's, soap, and food in order to quench my thirst.

I'm lucky enough to get booked to thundering cathedrals of rave like Fabric as well as such bastions of House Music as the Sub Club in Glasgow and Mad Racket in Sydney, not to mention temples of soulful sonic wizardry like The Electric Chair, Jigsaw Music and, well too many to mention here really, but you get the idea - All of which I love equally.

I occasionally write (badly) and do a monthly radio show and one-off parties called TONIC with my extremely talented graphic designer buddy, Pipes - We also did a couple of books together. One called 'No Idea' about graphic design and the other a profile of Sheffield Graffiti artist, rapper and all round Hip Hop maverick, Edna / Kid Acne - No one batted an eyelid : )

I DJ Most weekends and am loving it more than ever, meeting lovely people and entertaining are addictive in the extreme - we're also still having enormous fun making music, of whatever variety.....some of which you can hear on http://www.myspace.com/chrisduckenfield. Amen.

Ideally suited support on the night will come from local spinners Calvin James and Giles K - no strangers themselves to rocking dancefloors around the capital, with Calvin being fresh from his recent 3-deck-no-headphones set at the Electric Picnic.

On VJ patrol we are delighted to have Q The Monkey on board, who will be fresh from doing visuals for Kormac\'s Live Show at the Cork Jazz Festival the weekend before.

This is most certainly a night that is not to be missed. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Ducky in action before, we implore you not pass up this opportunity, for your own good. You'll be in for a treat. If in doubt, do some googling!

Oh, and dress up like crazy, it's Halloween, let's make it even more fun than it usually! Leave the bangers at home though please.... ;)

Admission is a measly recession-proof €12 and the doors will be firmly wedged open from 10:30pm onwards. :biggrinsmiley:

Not a hope I will make this but I'd say a good night on the cards alright. SWAG had some amazing tracks over the years, wouldn't be up to speed with more current stuff or Duckenfield DJing though, must download some of his mixes, be keen to hear alright.

This track still sends shivers through me, really excellent tune that has stood the test of time...

SWAG aren't making music together anymore unfortunately but Ducky still is, and quality stuff it is too! Mostly bouncy kinda wonky tech-house ****. He's a cracking crackin DJ too - plays across the board from disco to house to techno and right back again. One of the most under-rated DJs around I would say - but I think he prefers it that way. The heads know how good he is.

Cracking night on Friday roll on!!!!
