Workplace Climate Survey - sexuality

Well its that time of the year when the (online) workplace climate survey is posted. This is apparently an anonymous survey - although from a serious of drop down boxes you finally end up selecting your department (its a huge multinational). This years climate IMO sank to a new low with the following question:

    Please state your sexual orientation:

    [ ] Heterosexual

    [ ] Gay man

    [ ] Lesbian

    [ ] Bi-sexual

Once I got over my disapointment that there wasn't an Atari Jaguar option, I was forced to admit that I am indeed heterosexual. But that got me thinking - its none of their FUPPIN business.

There could be logic to this - they might find that all the white male heterosexuals working in IT in Dublin always slate their managers and working environment (I do). But never the less should they even be asking this????!!?

So they can show off stats to say that they are open to indivduals with differing sexual orientations?

Kinda like being asked that in an interview

It's anonymous so they're covered from a discrimination perspective.

I would hope that it's optional as well? In theory if it's anonymous they won't know who has or hasn't done it, and so couldn't force you to :pac:

Asking this in an interview however does count as discrimination - in fact employers need to be wary of asking anything about extra-curricular activities in case someone was the president of the LBG Society and then get turned down for the job...

Anonymous my ass! Its on their intranet they will most likely know exactly who is answering what from either having their domain username or the workstation IP. It really is none of their business what side of the fense you are or if your in the middle.

It might be anonymous in the sense that HR won't be given a list of names, but I agree that it isn't really anonymous as it would be simple to trace back each application to an IP.

Or like where I work, you are given a unique URL just for you...

Sorry, I should have said 'anonymous' - as in legally they can't get pulled up for it. I guess it depends on the ethics of your company's HR department as to how anonymous it really is... (I hope I'm not opening a can of worms here)

    If you're sensitive.

    Leave it blank.

Or if you're male... choose lesbian.

or else complain to HR that none of those adequately describe your current circumstances and you feel you are being pidgin holed.

    Asexual?

    Only interested in hermaphradites?

I think an attraction to ladyboys would count as gay, but if you're interested in ladyboy animals, I'm not sure what that means.

It's so that they can say they have X more ladyboys working in the office this year, than last year.

There's a really hot girl in HR - I'd hate to give her the wrong impression :D

Yeah - I think I'll just keep quiet so - we already have a ball breaker of a boss, lets not give her any ideas... :(
