Have been looking at getting an 40-42" LCD a while, I see Samsung 5 series full hd have come down in price and think of taking the plunge.
ANyone have any experience with this TV - anything better at same price around €950

I bought a 40" 5 series about 2 months ago. Really really happy with it. Picture is great (even with non HD broadcasting), and the sound is a lot better than I was expecting.

Oodles of connections at the back. I say go for it.

    (I don't work for Samsung!)

I got it and very happy - I managed to talk them into giving me a free stand instead of the DVD player. Do you hear a loudish buzz when it is on?

Can't say I do.. Is it when watching dvds or tv, or both?

I messed around with it last night and realise it has something to do with NTL dvr - there is a buzz noise coming through.

Sounds like some voltage is leaking somewhere.

Actually I noticed this on Channel 6 last night during Family Guy. The GF says she has it on hers aswell (4 series). I didn't notice it on any other channels though..

I rang NTL about it - they were not sure. I think it has something to do with the Scart lead, I tried a couple of different ones and it seems to be quieter on a different scart but still slightly there.
Also what does the auto volume do- when on it the volume does not seem to be able to go very loud?

The auto volume option levels out the difference in volume between the commercials and program you're watching. It's a useful feature because there's usually a noticeable difference in sound volume between the programmes and when the commercials come on. Advertisers like to get our attention and by producing commercials much louder than the programme you have just been watching it ensures a degree of success.
It usually takes a couple of seconds of the levelling effect to take effect, but saves you from seeking out the remote control to lower the volume and then increasing it again when the programme resumes.

I have it on all the time. I actually find the volume to be louder with it on. As Scart said, it levels out the volume differences between channels. I think it's a cracking feature.

Don't be shy of the manual sound EQ either, makes a big difference.

Yep I messed around with that.

Sorry another question are there any Full HD channels on NTL digital or programmes shown even - would be interested in seeing the difference.
