    Hey,
Does anyone know any pharmacy schools that would allow me to skip first year Pharmacy? I already have a BSc degree in pharmaceutical chemistry and really don't want to do another four years in college! I'm pretty sure none of the three Irish colleges (RCSI, Trinity, UCC) give exemptions, but I heard some UK colleges will? E-mailed a few, but not getting any luck! Does anyone know anyone that was allowed skip first year on the basis of already having a relevant degree?

I know someone with a BSc in pharmacology who was able to skip 1st year pharmacy in Sunderland, if that's any use to you.

There is a lot of biology, and possibly physiology in first year pharmacy, so would a pharmaceutical chemistry graduate be covered for those subjects?

Also there are the pharmacy specific subjects like pharmacognosy and pharmaceutics which would not be covered in other courses, and if started in first year would leave you at a disadvantage.

I guess though it is up to each college's policy.

Well I've taken many 3rd and 4th year modules in biology as part of my course, including immunology, molecular biology, proteomics and mechanisms of human disease, so I have a good background. I've also done alot of pharmacology so I'd hate to have to repeat it all.
I wonder if there's any pharmacy courses that don't start the pharmacy specific courses until second year.....

Until recently it was possible in literally one or two of the UK unis to skip 1st year (I did!), but AFAIK it's no longer possible. I'm not 100% certain on this though, so it's worth keeping up your enquiries.

well I e-mailed all 26 UK universities and got 17 no's back so far. Not looking good.....I'd be so annoyed if they were lying though.

Have a 1.1 in pharmacology and out of the 6 universities i applied to do pharmacy none would let me skip a year. I applied to RCSI in dublin and Bath, Robert Gordon, Sunderland, Brighton and Cardiff in the UK. Currently in first year in Bath and loving it. Im glad not to have skipped first year now as they teach alot of key pharmacy skills during the first year.

Robert Gordon are lying bastards, they told me they don't let anyone skip first year, under any circumstance, when I was applying in 2009, yet they let a guy I know skip first year that very year (pharmacology, 1.1)

You may be a bit premature with your criticism. Without knowing any details of the above example, a possible explanation may be that the student in question was given an exemption from first year back when RGU still permitted it, and simply deferred his entry until 2009.
