Former EastEnders star Wendy Richard has announced that she is dying of cancer.

The 65-year-old actress, who played Pauline Fowler on the BBC One soap, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease in January this year. She has previously fought breast cancer twice.

"I went for my usual annual check-up and they found that some cancer cells had returned in my left armpit," Wendy explained.

Richard told the Sunday Express newspaper that she has already made out her will and discussed plans for her funeral.

"The drugs I was given to help had an adverse effect. If anything, they did more damage than good so my health has really deteriorated," she continued. "Now I have a cancerous growth on my right kidney and the cancer has spread to my bones.

"Twice I've had breast cancer but this is different. It's more aggressive this time, unfortunately, and has spread to the top of my spine and left ribs."

Richard plans to marry her partner John Burns before starting a course of chemotherapy later this month.

"My oncologist said I've got several useful years ahead of me but since then it's got worse," she said. "Part of me is dreading the chemo but I've got my wig all ready and prepared, because obviously I will lose my hair. Because I've never had chemo before they can give me a big dose so I'm hoping that will zap it."

The actress starred on EastEnders from 1985 to 2006. She had previously played Miss Brahms in Are You Being Served? for thirteen years.

    Poor Wendy

does every post you make have to be trolling?

Use a bit of common sense for once or is that too difficult for an xbox gamer to do?

Actress Wendy Richard has passed away, aged 65.
The actress died with her husband John Burns by her side at the Harley Street Clinic, according to her agent Kevin Francis.
The star revealed that she was suffering from an aggressive, terminal form of cancer last October. She married Burns, her lover of 13 years, in a ceremony later that month.
"She was incredibly brave and retained her sense of humour right to the end," Francis told the BBC.
Richard's former soap co-star Shane Richie told The Sun that he was "devastated" by the news. "My heart goes out to John, Wendy's husband and her family," he said.
Richard played Pauline Fowler in EastEnders between 1985 and 2006, making her one of the longest-ever running cast members in the show. Her other famous roles included Miss Brahms in Are You Being Served and Grace & Favour and parts in Dad's Army and The Likely Lads.
Her most recent TV acting appearance came as Mrs Crump in ITV's Miss Marple: A Pocket Full Of Rye last year.

Natalie Cassidy has moved in with the widower of her late EastEnders co-star Wendy Richard, a report claims.
The actress, best known for her role as Sonia Fowler on the BBC One soap, is said to be living at John Burns's north London home after splitting from her fiancé Ben Porter last month.
A source told The People: "Natalie has gone through terrible heartache since Wendy died but she has been a huge source of strength to John. It's terribly sad she has split from Ben.
"But the impact of the loss of Wendy has made her rethink her life and what she wants for the future."
Richard, who played Cassidy's on-screen mother-in-law Pauline Fowler, passed away in February following a battle with cancer. She was 65.
Cassidy later paid tribute to her former co-star, describing Richard as a "second mum".
The insider added: "She had been looking forward to getting married in the summer but her priorities have now changed. John's been like a father to her and they are helping each other through difficult times."

I really hope this does not turn romantic and the next few weeks we will see interviews from them both saying it was Wendy's wishes

I'm not sure which is sicker - her getting off with a guy old enough to be her grandad or him getting off with Sonja.
