Padraig Harrington and European Tour

With Karlsson top of the Order of Merit after his win today I was like surprised to see that Harrington has only played 13 events on the tour this year.

Of these 4 are majors, 2 are WGC, 3 are in the far/middle east which you can be pretty sure he is getting a few quid to appear.

Irish Open you can't not expect him to play.

Wales cause it was on the next Ryder Cup course so has some meaning in playing.

I would like to see him play a couple of more events around Europe to support and promote the tour been the only European Major winner in 10 years.

Karlsson stands are 21 now played tournaments all over the place.

Surprised to see hes only played 13 events, he seems to be more centered around the majors these days, obviously for good reason given his achievements this summer...the order of merit might be beyond him now, given hes only playing one more event in europe, as far as i know

I wouldn't class him as a European tour member. I know he meets the requirments but if i'm not mistaken Garcia has probably played more tournaments sanctioned by the Euro tour.

He does focus on the majors now which sees him limiting how often he plays. Surprised i heard him talking about burnout and fatigue the other week. Puff!

I always laugh about the tired and fatigue but it will not stop him flying over to Asia to play a tournament which I say he wouldn't even think about playing only cause he gets a pocket full of cash. He has played 15 events on the PGA tour and Harrington will have played 14 when he is finished in Europe as he is only playing Volvo Masters.

Might see him and a few Americans over next year. Nothing to do with the race to Dubai now

In fairness to Padraig I think he has played a further 8 times on the PGA tour, this excludes WGC and Majors. Karlsson has only played 1 as far as I know.

But Padriag certainly does have a tendency to say he is 'tired' alot..

ah but does he really want to play there for the money or is it part of his sponsorship/marketing deals?

Yes someone really needs to do some PR for padraig, best ever irish sportsman but needs to stop telling the world he's tired, not focused etc. other than that a star.

To be fair, he is reckoned to be one of, if not the, hardest working golfers on the circuit. Just because he's not playing in too many tournaments doesn't mean he's not off working on his game with Bob Torrance. I'd imagine practice sessions are more tiring than actual rounds of golf as hitting the ball is far more frequent.

True, but how many other top golfers, in fact make that sportsmen, complain constantly of being tired and not at his best. I'm sick of hearing about it too. Just get on with it.

Oh just one of the top sportsmen in the world ;)
"Roger Federer has withdrawn from next week's Stockholm Open, saying he is in need of a rest after a tough year..."
"I feel fortunate to be healthy again," he said. "But I want to remain at the top of the game for years to come and go after the number one ranking again."
He added: "In order to do that, I need to get a proper rest and get strong again so that I am 100% fit for the remainder of the year or next year."

Ah I know, he had an excuse of being sick though. I think Harrington could be using it as a ploy to lower expectation and pressure like he did before the open etc.
Of course, maybe he is just knackered from staying at home in Irelands glorious grey summer and suffers from SAD

Federer doesn't say it before and during every tournament he plays though. He also backed up his moan by withdrawing too. If lowering expectations is what Harrington is trying to do then it's becoming pretty tiresome. Just take a few weeks off, a la Federer, have a Solero and get on with it.
