Is there any superstition that says you shouldn’t shoot odd coloured rabbit?

Our should they be shoot to maintain the purity of the warren?

I never heard of that superstition but I suppose its like the Magpie, one for sorrow two for joy.

Over the years I have seen various types and colored Rabbits, have you ever seen a hedge rabbit, they are fawn colored, a beautiful looking rabbit.

we had a black rabbit on our farm for few years we didn`t shoot it as we don`t bother much about rabbits , we`re more fox and deer hunters, think someone shot him one nite tho

I've seen plenty of black rabbits in my time but have not shot any bcause at the time I had no reason to, however, should I come across one with a reason then I will shoot it.

I was told at one stage they were a result of domesticated rabbits either escaping or being turned free into the countryside.

Probably just as tasty as a normal coloured one.

Only superstition I've ever heard of is the one about not shooting the white Stag or Hind. It's just superstition, caused by people seeing somthing totally unique in an enviroment that usualy hiding things.Modern day explanation ..albinoism or in the rabbits case interbreeding.

The's one in Cork he's like, Moby Dick!

many a man has gone after him, but all have gone home empty handed with more tales of wow. The old 22sub might not be gun enough for this rabbit. He could be doing battle with the 6.5 yet( The Lurcher,The vet and myself all have our sights set for him)

Never ever shoot a black rabbit,

have them beside me, I still won't shoot him??

Ole Nick seems to be just about anywhere : in hares, in black rabbits, ..... .

Nearly sure it's the result of cross breeding with thrown out pets or farm escapees. If I want a rabbit for the pot I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a black one. An uncle of my mums kept nothing but big albino's for the pot years ago and so far none of the family has shown any signs of supernatural influences.:D

I shot one of those 'hedge' rabbits last year - beautiful colour.

JR, I cant open the image can you try again.

I was beginning to think that this type of rabbit may have become extinct, I have not seen any since the seventies.

There use to be a lot of hedge rabbits at the back of the roof tile factory in Clondalkin. They had piles of broken tiles and the rabbits lived under them, I don't think they burrow.

As far as i am aware black rabbits are results of in breeding. My secong ever rabbit to shoot was a black fella in a sand quarry with a .22 rifle when i was onlt a young lad with my grandfather. good memories!
