Which software for HTPC ?

    I have a good spec PC next to my plasma. I currently use Mediaportal. Its good but dispite trying numerous things I cannot get my MCE remote to work with it. It's also a little slow browsing network.

    I watch all HD stuff streamed from the HDD of my main PC via network cable. I had a quick look at MythTV, XBMC (Still buggy) and a few more.

    Anyone recommend a good software to use. It has to play ALL HD stuff (.mkv's etc) which is why I opted not to use Vista MCE (I believe it can play them, but loads of messing with codecs?).

    I had a popcorn hour, but got a really cheap PC and the missus wants internet downstairs aswell.

    I know vlc etc can do it, but I want a proper user friendly setup.

    Looks like you've covered all the main offerings already. Ill rattle off a couple I can think of....

    Geexbox
    SageTV
    Freevo

    IMO if Mediaportal isnt working for you, then either SageTV or MCE with the appropiate workarounds is the way to go...

    Probly right. Figured I'd give it a shot anyway. I'l have a look at the ones you listed aswell
