If you're after a good selection of different trees try Avondale House in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow.

Otherwise Mt. Usher gardens near Ashford http://homepage.eircom.net/~gardens/, Powerscourt or Kilruddery House.

Avoca area is also nice. There are many forests. And what is the name of the waterfall with "sculptures" along the track? Devil's?

Massy's Wood is very convenient to Dublin and might be worth checking out. It is on the Kilakee Road, opposite the carpark for the Hellfire club. Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve in Enniskerry is another possibility.

If you want to have a day away from Dublin Emo Court is well worth a look and convenient from the motorway.

Yes, it really is a great spot, with a wide variety of different types of trees. Oh yes, and I forgot to mention, it's a good spot for wild mushrooms too (the edible kind!) :)
