Anyone who is an Alf Stewart fan should read this
    http://www.homeandaway.utvinternet.ie/Profiles/Alf.htm

"he had businesses in different locations, but they rarely stayed long - one was damaged by an earthquake, another by fire and so on."

    lol

There was an Irish character once if I remember correctly., he was a poet and an alco who wore a white creased suit and a hat. I think Sally befriended him.

I think his name was Ciaran. It was around the time that Marilyn had the Salon at the Diner. When Sally introduced Maz to him she was banging on that she loved Meave Binchy much to the dismay of Sally as she didn't think Binchy was much of an intellectual.

I think Jack had something to do with that accident, either that or he just blamed himself for it. I do remember he left for the navy soon afterwards.

    can anyone confirm?
Jack left for the Navy when things got sticky coz he was shagging Sally who was his foster sister.

The Irish poet was Gabe Farley, there's a few posts here about him. Wasn't the Ciaran guy an archaeologist Sally went away with? I think they were even engaged. I remember the Maeve Binchy thing, but then when Marilyn got friendly with Donald Fisher and he turned her into an intellectual, she was seen reading Ulysses one day and saying to herself 'Why do people make such horrible jokes about the Irish?'

Also, slightly off-topic, there was once a question Donald Fisher called out in a table quiz at the school: 'What's another name for Northern Ireland'? And the 'correct' answer was 'Ulster'!

So between that and info in other posts, to the Home and Away execs, Ireland = burglars, alcoholic poets, archaeologists, James Joyce, stupidity and the IRA.

Probably this one mentioned a page or two back.

ARG I love old home and away! Remember the asian lad who was in it for a few weeks. He was called Hai which everyone in Summer Bay was baffled by because they thought when he was asked his name that his was responding with "Hi". Anyhuu it turned out that his english was very good but it took a good while for everyone to twig it.

Also remember when they all went out on the boat for the fundraising evening but the boat sank in a storm and the rescue was the storyline for like 3 weeks.

Teegan, Peta, Sol, Edmund, Mud, Tug, Jessie (when he robbed cars), Will, Evil Egan....

    ARG I'm overloaded!

Isn't that what kicked off the whole tired Kirsty\Kane saga? He saved her and her mother?

No that was Leah who mentioned Maeve Binchy, and Sally put her down by saying something like "Well, it's hardly Finnegan's Wake" And later on Leah confronts her and was like "I don't care about your Finnegan Schminnegan...!"

Sally was going to marry Ciaran, but right before their wedding he made a pass at Gypsy. Gypsy had to tell Sally and Sally didn't believe her at first because Gypsy was such a ho bag

I remember when Michael died! He got swept away in the river and drowned (at least he didn't do a Harold from Neighbours - Harold also got washed away, but turned up several years later, he had been living in Tasmania with amnesia)
A while later, Shannon was going through a rebellious phase - she dyed her hair black and had an unsuitable boyfriend - something happened with the boyfriend and Pippa was in a coma for several weeks, when Sam confronted her about it and said that it was Shannon's fault that Pippa was in a coma, Shannon told Sam that it was his fault that Michael died. The betch!!

Saul was the cult guy who kidnapped Selina - his son Alex was in it for a while as well, he had long brown hair and drove a motorbike, anyone remember him? He also had a son called Joey who turned up much later - Joey Rainbow! He lived with Irene I think

Ah wow Teegan, I'd forgotten about her! She couldn't read when she first came to Summer Bay, so she was really troubled, but once she'd been fostered and made friends suddenly she was going to school in the same class as everyone else

Oh yeah when she arrived they put her in to share Sally's room and Sally was (of course) really nice to her but she got mad one day and ripped up all the books from her shelves!

Gypsy was excruciating! They went to such extremes with the character. Kidnapped, and remember playing up to that lesbian girl? And then impregnanted by Will...

I'm amazed at the memory power in here...I loved Sally, Sam was a pain in the arse and Bouncer what a dog...or was he in Neighbours. I think he got left in Summer bay and had to walk home to Ramsay street actually.I loved Irene she was my favourite mum. Poor Pippa was always carrying the washing or making dinner.

I stopped watching Home and Away around the time that Gypsy was going through her lesbian stage. I did hear that she had a baby with Will, but I wasn't watching it then. I thought she was quite annoying, and not very pretty. Didn't think much of her brother Tom either. Does anyone else remember when Gypsy and Tom met in an internet chatroom, neither of them realised it was their sibling they were talking to, I'm not sure we even had the internet yet in my house when this happened!

Sally's dog wasn't Bouncer but Dag Dog. Don't know what happened to him though. Perhaps he ended up in one of those pies that Pippa baked for the diner.

I remember Craig McLachlan being in it for a while, he had the mad laugh, like a donkey braying. :)

Argh!! Saul and Serena... That was some scary schit! I think that was about the same time as Chloe and her (the)rapist.

I have the very first episode of Home and Away recorded. Found it on YouTube, sorry if its alreadt posted. It wasn't all that exciting but some of the folk in it (some probably mentioned already):

Pippa (naturally the original Vanessa Downing)
    Tom
    Sally
    Carly
    Frank
    Donald Fisher
Neville and Floss (a dodgy fortune teller whose predictions were normally accurate)
    Sharon (friend of Carly)
Matt (the surfer- didn't appear in the original credits but did appear in the first episode)
    Bobby
Ailsa (trying to help get Bobby's life in order)
Alf (had the shop even then)
    Ruth (Roo)
    Steven
    Milko (Sally's friend)

It wasn't a very big cast, the original credits seemed a big dragged out with Tom and Pippa having a separate billing.

A few years back I had a row with someone that there were 2 Irene's, the alcoholic one who caused trouble and I think the current Irene has been there since.

Home And Away - The Romances DVD £3.98

This features a great extra - the full 90 minute pilot.

I bought the region 4 (Australian) version and it was even cheaper. AU$2.

    Worth getting.

Melissa George is very good in the new series of Greys Anatomy. She is casted as an intern and friend of Meridths.
Have to disagree there, I think she's awful! Actually that might be a bit harsh, it's really more the character I dislike and not the actress.

Ryan Clarke (Sam) was in some sort of documentary about lifeguards on Bondi Beach a couple of years ago. He's pretty much unrecognizable now.

That's definitely Sam! Didn't he turn up a few years ago and he slept with Hayley?! I can remember Hayley crying the next day or something. He wasn't very nice :pac:

Yep Bouncer was Joe Mangle's dog in Neighbours.
