Mixing athletics with weights?

    Hey all.

I'm looking to get a bit of input from anyone here.

For the 2 or so months leading up to the summer, I was working on easy enough routines in the gym - deadlifts, squats, bench 5x5 type stuff. Light enough weights too, only around 50/60kg each.

Didn't do much during the summer - bar a bit of hanging around muscle beach ha! - and since I came back, I've been training for the Guinness triathlon. Ran it, finished it, and now I'm trying to see can I put weights into my routine.

I've never been fitter right now, and I'm wondering - can you keep up both, or do you pick getting better at athletics, or better at lifting weights?
