I was just wondering what are peoples success rates when hunting deer, i.e. when they set out to hunt a deer how often do they return with one. Or do people just stay out until they get a deer?

Deer are by far the hardest game to hunt in my exp. They move silently, can fit through the smallest gap in a hedge and tend to stay near houses and busy roads in my area so they know they are safe.

Very hard to hunt in forrest or woodland.

For every 4-6 times I go out I get 1 deer. Is that enough info?
pm me if you need more

i would second that really. Only point I would add is that it is very dependant on the area you are in and the local popullation - to state the obvious.

Cheers for that lads. I have been talking with a local deer stalker and he said the same. If it was me the number of nights I would need would be much higher. I could barely see them against all the dead Molinia grass this time of year!

do you just want to see a few deer?

if so try one of the national parks, Killarney/Donraile etc

Cheers for that. I have seen plenty deer thanks. Mainly in eastern European forests or in show reserves though.

I went out with a deer stalker recently and it was the first time I saw red deer in Connemara and was able to really appreciate how well red deer blend into the surrounding vegetation out there this time of year. I did not see a single one until he pointed them out to me :o

:D Well I have to say my sucess rate at the moment is 1 in 1 or 100% (one shot one kill):D

 That can't be beaten until my next shot and then it'll go downhill fast

Seeing deer, the success rate is probably 1 in 2 or 1 in 3.

Shooting one is probably same as hazza 1 in 10.

    Hi Neo,

    Been out three times,

1st time, saw deer but unable to shoot as one was a red stag & the other was a female sika, which was out of season at the time.

2nd time, shot one sika male within an hour.

3rd time, nothing at all for two hours.

    Hope you are well,

    All the best.
