I have a job interview next week for college work placement. What would be the best colour shirt and tie to wear?

    Hey danh789,

What colour suit are you wearing, and what pattern - solid, pinstripe?

Wear a white shirt and a plain tie which should contrast in colour with the suit. That way you will not make a mistake.

Yep your probably best playing it safe and getting a new white shirt and match the tie with the suit

    Its a black pinstripe suit

I'd highly recommend a pale blue shirt with perhaps a yellow tie. Preferably with a subtle pattern or stripe.

White can look very harsh with the black contrast.

If the job is for a creative role, you can be more adventurous with your tie :)

Light blue is the way to go. Some good shirt/tie sets in Next; look smart and wont cost you much.

You should wear a white shirt and a solid coloured tie. Red equals power, but might be too much if you are not experienced. DO NOT WEAR A BLUE SHIRT. everyone else will be wearing one. invest in a good quality non transparent white shirt and it will be useful for any occasion.
    Good luck in the interview.
I'd also recommend you wear cuff links - you can get a cheap pair in M&S and it helps you look really smart.

just pick something you like, but never mix a stripey shirt with a spotty tie. and make sure the colours go together well. i think the tie should always be darker than the shirt though, or at least the same colour.

can't go wrong with a white shirt though, and pretty much any colour or pattern of tie will go with it. you'll want to stand out, but in a good way, not to be that fella who was wearing the stupid tie
