Movember - Get your mo on for charity!

Movember is an annual month-long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November.

The entrants register at the start of the month clean shaven and the aim is to have a weird/wacky/cool mustache by the end of the month. There's also a big party at the end and prizes. :)

The idea behind it is that you get sponsorship from people to grow your mustache, and funds raised go to the local cancer society in your country. The purpose is two fold, to raise money for the charity and to raise awareness of mens health issues (specifically prostate cancer).

Well... this year is the first year for Ireland and the Irish cancer society are the charity involved here.

To find out more information, and also to register please visit http://ie.movember.com

Post your thoughts & support here in this thread! :)

    P.s. I might enter it. :)

I was going to start a thread about this, I was just waiting for the oppertune moment. I'm in  I'll wax my tache at the start of the month and take photos of its progress.

    LOL

According to the website the wimmins should support the men :p and they can wear fake mustaches to the end event. :)

This is something I might do (if I can round up a few others too). For a very good cause too.

Are you going to organise the forum go to this? It's on same night as the Beers though.

The event is for people who take part and raise above a certain amount (I think €50 or something like that...)

It's nothing to do with me or boards. :)

Anyone wanna do this as a team?
    Who'll be team captain?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Ok, as nobody has done so before now, I've made a team:

    Team Moards!!!

Use the below to join the team and let's see what we can do :D
    Hi ,

It's Damien sending this email because this November I've decided to get hairy and grow a moustache for Movember.

I want to be an active participant in the movement that is changing the face of men's health. I'm also committed to tackling men's health issues and being proactive in the fight against prostate cancer...and I want you on my team. My team is called Moards.

To join my Movember team go to http://ie.movember.com/ie/register and follow the steps. Once registered you'll be sent all the information you need to get donations and get growing as part of my Movember team.

You will need these details to complete your online registration:

Men's health is a major issue. Did you know:

    * Cancer of the prostate was the most common cancer diagnosed in Ireland in 2005.
    * More men die of prostate cancer per head of population in Ireland than do in England, Scotland and Wales.

The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men's health issues and donated to Action Prostate Cancer (APC), an initiative of the Irish Cancer Society. APC will use the funds to raise vital awareness, educate men on risk factors for developing prostate cancer, and help to make a real difference in the lives of people affected by the disease.

    Cheers,

    Damo

More information is available at http://www.movember.com/.
Movember is proudly grown by Finlandia Vodka and Wilkinson Sword.
Movember is proud to partner the Irish Cancer Society.

A forum specifically for this possibly?

And no worries, hope everything is ok! And sure even if you're not growing a tash, you could still sponsor someone who is ;) *nudge nudge*

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

Whats the point in that, it's totally relevant to this forum...
This is still a "young" forum so an event like this is good to spark some interest in it also.
    It's a win win. :)

I tried to donate but apparently my IP is blocked. I'll do it when I get home later ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

Just a sub forum off this one, only for the month. Then it will disappear again. :)
    Fear not mighty Dord *bows*

    You've got a €10 donation now. ;)

Think their counting on the donation leaderbeard leaderboard is a little off:
    23 Will Loughman 101.78
    24 Damien Holmes 101.78

    We've actually only got €60 each... O_o

You're jumping every time you see him but he's probably doing the same. lol
After I shaved my beard off I didn't "recognise myself" for about 2 or 3 weeks. Scary stuff... :(

Good luck to him anyways! :)
