Hi there lads. I've recently started up my Mobile DJ service in Ireland.
I'm just wondering what kind of insurance i should have. I'll be doing wedddings and birthdays mostly in hotels and pubs.:)

    Wedding dj?

I'd say medical insurance, for bleeding eardrums and the like!

Public Liabilty insurance, would be the "must have" for doing gigs with your own gear.

I'm sure you'd probably want accidental damage, equipment cover and probably goods-in-transit, best thing to do is talk to a good broker.

oh i forgot to mention. how much would i have to pay per year - lets say E2500 worth of equipment. :)

The value may affect the insurance for the equipment. But not sure it would be too relevant for public liability, presume that protects third parties who stick their fingeer into a socket or a kid pulling a speaker down on its head or that drunk dancer flying over a cable.

There's no hard and fast rule when it comes to insurance premiums you'll need to call a broker / or company and have them asses the risks e.g.

if you make sure your have all your cables taped down at every gig its less of a risk than them hanging loose...

if all your equipment is flightcased, its less of a risk than individual pieces of equipment getting broken when they are thrown in the back of a fiesta....

if you have an immobilizer and alarm its less likely your car will be broken into and the equipment stolen while your unloading ... you get the idea.

Would you be using your own equipment or house gear ?, are you using CD's or digital medium.

Do you have adequate backup if you are playing on digital in the case your laptop gets stolen ?

You get the idea .... then you also need accurate turnover figures too, how many gigs you expect to do a year, what scale are the events etc ...
