Basically I'm looking for a good user friendly unit that can store photos, music and play movies and I'm trying to decide on the ipod classic or the Creative Zen series.
I don't need a huge amount of memory either. I know the ipod has large memory and the Creative has a card slot to expand memory.
A couple of mates have sworn by the ipod classic but others rave about the creative Zen devices.
To be honest I'm kind of lost but do need a really user friendly device with good quality screen
Also can you upload music direct from CD and movie from DVD on the ipod or must you use itunes?

Thank you in advance for the help, advice and tips.

There are pros and cons in either situation - most people would probably argue that the iPod is more user friendly, but the ZEN's interface is pretty straightforward too.

The ZEN will play more types of video than the iPod, so you're more likely to have videos already formatted for it, without needing to convert them - the iPod will need almost everything converted for it. If you want to rip your personal DVDs for use on these devices, it makes no difference really because you're going to need software to convert them anyway to one format or the other.

The expandable memory on the ZEN is pretty horribly done to be honest - nothing on the memory card that you may add is integrated with your main memory music/video and it's quite clunky to switch from internal to expanded memory...

You will need iTunes to get any content on the iPod. You can't convert movies with it though, you'll need third party software. Your CDs can be converted with iTunes or any number of other programs, then transferred over to the iPod with iTunes.

If the screen is really important to you and capacity isn't, maybe the iPod Touch would be a better fit? It's much nicer to watch stuff on than the Classic or the ZEN but doesn't come any bigger than 32GB at the moment.

Many thanks for your reply, it has certainly given me food for thought so I will take a look at the ipod touch.
